IGT 05/25- Snakes at Metropolitans (Game2)

Arizona at NY Mets
When: 4:40 PM ET, Sunday, May 25, 2014
Where: Citi Field, New York City, New York
SportsDirect Inc.

TV:
4:40 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Diamondbacks RH Zeke Spruill (2013: 0-2, 5.56 ERA) vs. Mets RH Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-0, 2.14)

Spruill gets the nod for the spot start in part because of his experience during a couple brief call-ups last season. The 24-year-old made four appearances out of the bullpen last June and came back up to make two starts in August, losing both and allowing 10 runs (six earned) over seven innings. His numbers at Triple-A Reno this spring are not terribly inspiring - he's 2-1 with a 4.72 ERA in 12 games (five starts).

Matsuzaka is set to make his first major-league start of the season after pitching out of the bullpen for the past two months. He has been effective in 14 relief appearances but hasn't thrown more than 56 pitches, which could become an issue for the bullpen on the back end of a doubleheader. The former Japanese star lost his only previous start against Arizona despite allowing only two runs in six innings for Boston in 2007.

So did we hear anything about EYJ? (I didn't listen to any of the between-games stuff).
He can't possibly be available and sitting both games plus all those Game 1 switcheroos

Ezekial Stephen Spruill
Conventional wisdom says that, as a pitcher the Braves drafted then gave up on, he can't be any good. 2nd round pick of the Braves from ... wait for it ... Marietta, Georgia.

Matsuzaka's RBI was all set up by the failure of Flores to hit into a DP. He hit it much too slowly.

The Twitterverse will be unbearable if the Mets dump these two...

Sheesh, Dicey, wait until the pitcher toes the rubber before giving up the bunt. These guys are charging so hard they're on his toes.

And somehow, he ends up on first. You can't figure out baseball.

Only a 6-4, when it could have been a 6-4-3. The very smallest of moral victories.

Re: IGT 05/25- Snakes at Metropolitans (Game2)

About time we get a big hit.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Met who seemed so in charge of every at-bat as Abreu is. Moises Alou?

Unfortunately, he's less playable than Alou.

Ruben Tejada, the pinch-hitter you've been looking for.

Hey I got a good idea, let's self-erase a few more base runners from the paths.
This time, with a hope-he-runs-into-one as basically the only hope with Cy Oung at the plate, Recker decides to try and pre-steal 2nd.

And Murphy and Young cash in that policy, with one of the premiums paid by Lagares.

Well, if swinging away isn't working may be we do have to start bunting more often.

Day game tomorrow.
The players should just sleep in the clubhouse at this point.

Jenrry "bounces back" (What a dippy storyline to hammer home in the last two innings, Howie and Gary) and Books it. Yay!

One out of three! One out of three!

He knows what he's doing up there but I'm not sure he's capable of really doing it enough. I'm thinking Kirk can provide as much offense while being both more helpful as a pinch runner or defensive replacement while maintaining that slim "almost prospect" chance of actually being good.

As I'm saying. He certainly gives a lot back on defense and baserunning. But with two men on in the ninth, he's about all you could ask for.

Am'n I the only one who thought Tejada's hand hopped right over the gag and got the back end of the plate?

Re: IGT 05/25- Snakes at Metropolitans (Game2)

I like Abreu enough at the plate, but I question whether he can be carried for long on today's rosters with 12-13 man pitching staffs. If you want room for a pinch-hitter who essentially can't play the field you may need to send a reliever down.
