Hmmm... It seems to me that an equally valid perspective is that hes done his part to shakify the New York Mets' solid rotation.

The post-Lagares era begins with dD getting the leadoff call.

Rollins taking a powder (or possibly traded to Mets, I don't know).

4 out of 5 sounds (and is) a helluva lot better than 3 out of 5.

Too bad ABs like that are #unsustainable
|
themetfairy Jun 02 2014 05:34 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
den Dekker made a Lagares-esque catch to take a home run away from Ryan Howard.

denD putting on a show!

Matt Stairs made up a word : perfeck.
|
Edgy MD Jun 02 2014 06:18 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
Phillies announcers wondering out loud if bats are still made of ash, and scratching their heads for an answer.

He is so awful in the booth I almost feel sorry for him. I never thought I'd pine for Sarge, who now would sound good to me.

Zvon Jun 02 2014 06:23 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
You just know that someday Colons gonna run into one (and keep it fair).
|
Frayed Knot Jun 02 2014 06:29 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
Stairs is Canadian so he probably thinks all bats are made of maple.

Close. He was singing the praises of northern birch.

That's the fruit of the Mets philosophical regime right there.

Zvon Jun 02 2014 06:42 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |

I didn't know that. He does give that away on certain words, like "out" and "about". denD, Lagares, and--who was the Philly guy who made that catch and ate wall? They would'a caught that. Wright drives in 2 with a boooooming double!
|
Edgy MD Jun 02 2014 06:45 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
So the Phillies broadcast just showed a heartwarming gesture by Bobby Abreu presenting a fan with a bat, leading to a huge celebration from the fan and the section.

If he starts talking about the Phillies or-gan-I-zation then it'll really be a dead give-away -- although I tend to think of that sort of accent as more middle-Canada (Ontario or west) while Stairs is from New Brunswick in 'The Maritimes' The odd part about Stairs when he was playing (for part of his career at least) is that he made his off-season home in ... Bangor, Maine*! Think about that for a minute, Choosing Bangor as the home you're going to live in for only October through January! Was kind of cool though in that he'd spend that time coaching youth hockey. * he left his home in the Maritimes and headed down the turnpike for New England -- sweet New England Name that tune if you know ^^^

Utley sucks!
|
Edgy MD Jun 02 2014 06:51 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
Funny thing Stairs admitted yesterday. He hated pinch hitting. It's not just that he preferred starting (who wouldn't?) but he couldn't handle sitting on the bench all game worrying that his only trip to the plate would be with the game on the line.

Flores lets the juciest pitch of the game go by for strike two and then serves a pitch off the plate into right for a two-run double.
|
Edgy MD Jun 02 2014 06:54 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
Oh, sweet, we're gonna get Colon with the sacks juiced.

Are we allowed to be in the bottom of the 8th in under 2-1/2 hours or does that break some rule?
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jun 02 2014 07:46 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
Eveland's mug has such a shnooky-palooka look to it. His performance? Not nearly.
|
Zvon Jun 02 2014 07:58 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
Eveland didn't suck. Hope he and Carlyle can keep it up. While they are here, anyway. That would be nice.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 02 2014 08:17 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
The Phillies are awful, but 4 of 5 at anyone's ballpark is impressive. The Phils may not recover from this last-placening we've smacked them with.

|
Edgy MD Jun 02 2014 08:40 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
|
Two dang games better in the standings, relative to the opponent, that's how much better. They had a five-game sweep within reach too, but best not to get too greedy, as the Phils had two of those Met wins within easy reach too. Anybody want to speculate where this falls among the top wins on the season? Colon getting some momentum. den Dekker showing his game in all its glory. Flores untracked. A lot to build on. Even the two walks by d'Arnaud are good for something.
|
Ceetar Jun 02 2014 08:45 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |
|
Nah, I can see them recovering, in the sense that I can see the Marlins losing 25 of 35 somewhere here and slipping past them.
|
Zvon Jun 02 2014 09:01 PM Re: IGT 06/02 - Mets at Phils |

Series wise. Big in a number of ways. Two being cahnfidence (esp the pen) and momentum. They know this Phils team is lacking and the Cubs coming up are worse. Take advantage of these games. And then, hopefully, play better against the better teams. The way this team has been jelling lately, I think they can compete if they keep it up. If all injuries are temp I think we are in good shape. This game wise. Also big. This fourth win was a slap in the Phillies phace and might be the blow that buries em for good. We'll see.
