Weird lineup for us...

have a poppy seed bun for me. we've been batting one of our worst hitters leadoff almost daily all season, why change it now?

Zvon Jun 05 2014 05:12 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
I want deGrom to get a win. Yea, now's a great time to field that line-up. [ /]sarcasm meter

I coulda caught that, Mr. CYoung. Tsk tsk.

Zvon Jun 05 2014 05:38 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
Wow. He may have been safe. Great throw Brown but only if he stays out. Man advances to 2nd on the throw.

Edgy MD Jun 05 2014 05:40 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
Could get reversed, but I think the glove brushed his wrist as he reached across.
|
Zvon Jun 05 2014 05:41 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
Crapcicles. Called safe. I would have wanted to challenge the DP thing but that did look too close to risk.
|
Edgy MD Jun 05 2014 05:42 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
Nope says the ruling. Do you think the evidence says he was conclusively safe?
|
Benjamin Grimm Jun 05 2014 05:42 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
Cubs announcers were surprised that Terry didn't challenge the safe call at first base on the attempted double-play. On replay it did look like it should have been an out call.

Bummer.
|
Zvon Jun 05 2014 05:45 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |

I was a little surprised because it looked like he avoided the tag from the views available, but there was no definitive view, imo. In other words, a perspective showing some space between the glove and the guy. I didn't see that so I didn't think they'd reverse it.
|
Benjamin Grimm Jun 05 2014 05:46 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
The replays I saw on the Chicago telecast looked very much like the runner's hand touched the plate before there was any tag. I was fully expecting that reversal.
|
Edgy MD Jun 05 2014 05:47 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
It's a pitchers' hitting exhibition. Losing ballz in the ivy like Dave Kingman.
|
Zvon Jun 05 2014 05:47 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
|
One replay looked safe, the other out (only saw two). It would have been a risk. It was a crucial DP tho. One of those possible game changers for a pitcher. deGrom doubles, lol. I love this kid.
|
RealityChuck Jun 05 2014 05:50 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
They've been using Lucas Duda's photo for deGrom on the scoreboard. Looks like he's hitting and pitching like it.

Frayed Knot Jun 05 2014 06:37 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
What does that Campbell K make it now, 1 for their last 91 w/RiSP or something like that?
|
Frayed Knot Jun 05 2014 06:45 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
|
Close. 22-for-116 over their last 10 games (.190) Five of those hits were garbage time hits in the blowout win at Philly, and because a large chunk of our hits are singles, not all of the hits w/RiSP actually plate a run.
|
Edgy MD Jun 05 2014 07:20 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
Should we be letting Campbell bat here?

They shouldn't have let Rizzo hit there.

That didn't last long. I told ya to keep Rizzo down boys. Didn't mean downtown.

Say what you will about Dopey Terry's lineup choices, but, well, Chris Young has been on base three times tonight.

Y'know, I was just about to say that this game has the feel of one where we give up two insurance runs and then score twice in the 9th to fall just short (with the go-ahead runners left on base of course).
|
Edgy MD Jun 05 2014 08:14 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
It has to be said. Recker got the tag down and d'Aranud did not, and that has made all the difference.

Mets Guy in Michigan Jun 05 2014 08:25 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
It seems like whenever we come off a great series, we come crashing down right away. I don't want to hear things like "the Phillies series took a lot out of them." That's crap. They gave these Cubs games away.
|
d'Kong76 Jun 05 2014 08:31 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |

What the hell does that mean? The series sucked. If it was a test ... they failed miserably.

Gary mentioned something in passing. I assume it was something TC said. Might have been Mex who said you shouldn't let the other team know that.

RealityChuck Jun 05 2014 09:24 PM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
I did enjoy the game at Wrigley; the 'Friendly Confines" is not just hype. The fans gave only minor ribbing to Mets fans and there was a lot of chatting (one girl asked me how many innings in a game!). And it's a beautiful ballpark.

|
Edgy MD Jun 06 2014 07:39 AM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |

Well, I think it's remotely close, in that they're both tag plays at the same remote base, and one was successful and the other missed.
|
Edgy MD Jun 06 2014 07:44 AM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
I just means to make a point that a missed tag cost us big. Obviously, less than perfect defense and pitching wouldn't matter so much if the team would hit a little.
|
MFS62 Jun 06 2014 08:21 AM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
Why pitch your closer in a non-save situation, especially when losing?
|
RealityChuck Jun 06 2014 08:26 AM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
Actually, I think the key play was Valbueno's double in the second. If den Decker (or Lagares, alas) were in center, it's an out and the runs don't score.
|
Edgy MD Jun 06 2014 08:30 AM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
|
Because using save situations to dictate when to use your closer is succumbing to a false hierarchy of values. He had already missed three days while pitchers of lesser status toiled. It was the Mets last best hope to win a game, and saving their allegedly best available pitcher for a save opportunity would have been counter-productive.

|
MFS62 Jun 06 2014 08:37 AM Re: IGT - Mets @ Cubs -- 6/5/14 |
I guess another reason is that he hadn't pitched for a while (didn't realize that) and they wanted to keep him sharp.
