More Mets! More Padres! Zack Wheeler takes on the love child of Jesse Orosco and Don Hahn at 4:10. Then stick around for the celebratory 50 Cent concert.

I am not going to this one, even though I should be going to this one. Wife's got a bachelorette party to attend and I'm hanging in the city all day. But the timing of the Mets game is perfect, and I just totally blanked on it as an option.

So I'll wander around Manhattan drinking lots of beer instead.

That would be Jesse Hahn, HS teammate of Matt Harvey (maybe there's some long ago grudge, over a girl or something, and Harvey can threaten to throw at him too) who was drafted five rounds later than MH after playing for Virginia Tech.
This will be his 2nd ML start despite just 11 starts above A-ball. In start #1, on June 3rd, he lasted just 3.2 innings against Pittsburgh, getting tagged for 4 runs on 6 hits (including 2 2R HRs) and 2 walks.

Then stick around for the celebratory 50 Cent concert.

Really? I hadn't heard about this. Maybe they should have promoted it some.
Even in the booth last night Gary was counting down to his last promo.

San Diego at NY Mets
When: 4:10 PM ET, Saturday, June 14, 2014
Where: Citi Field, New York City, New York
SportsDirect Inc.

The New York Mets hope the Fountain of Youth still flows when they host the San Diego Padres on Saturday in the middle contest of a three-game series. "Anytime they need me there, I'm always going to be ready to play the game," 40-year-old Bobby Abreu told reporters after going 4-for-4 - his first four-hit contest since May 30, 2011 - with two RBIs and two runs scored in New York's 6-2 victory Friday. Abreu will likely be in the lineup for the fourth straight game as Curtis Granderson remains day-to-day while nursing a sore left calf, and the producer of 2,460 career hits tries to provide another spark for a team which has won only twice in its last 10 contests.

San Diego, which is last in the majors in runs scored, has recorded seven in the first four contests of its eight-game road trip. The Padres have lost five straight games after being shut down by 41-year-old Bartolo Colon, who retired 18 straight batters following Rene Rivera's homer in the second inning. The Padres' Jesse Hahn was called up from Double-A San Antonio to make his second major-league start and opposes Zack Wheeler, who is coming off his shortest outing of 2014.

TV:
4:10 p.m. ET, FSN San Diego, WPIX (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Padres RH Jesse Hahn (0-1, 9.82 ERA) vs. Mets RH Zack Wheeler (2-6, 4.19)

Hahn hopes his second try against major-league hitters goes better than the first, when he yielded four runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings of a 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh on June 3. The 24-year-old Connecticut native was returned to San Antonio, where he yielded one earned run in 5 2/3 frames Monday as the reliever-turned-starter continues to build more stamina. Hahn was a teammate of Mets right-hander Matt Harvey at Fitch High School in Groton, Conn. - about 120 miles from New York's Citi Field.

Wheeler allowed four runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings of a 6-4 loss at San Francisco on Sunday and has lost four of his last five decisions. The 24-year-old Georgia native, though, was 1-1 with a 1.37 ERA in his three previous turns - all quality starts. Wheeler, who has permitted 71 hits and struck out 75 in 73 innings this season, struck out a career-high 12 while yielding one run and seven hits in his only start against San Diego, but did not get a decision in New York's 4-1 victory last Aug. 15.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Mets manager Terry Collins said RHP Jenrry Mejia (back) is "fine," although he said he doesn't know when his closer will be ready to pitch again.
2. San Diego is 21-4 when scoring four or more runs this season.
3. The Padres (19-0) and the Marlins (24-0) are the only teams in the majors not to lose when leading after seven innings this season.

Sure, Men Without Hats had multiple songs of multiple excellent qualities. "I Like" them.

If MWH was performing at Citi Field, you can bet I'd be flying up there in my Mazda right NOW!!!!

Every time I wonder
Where the world went wrong
End up lying on my face
Going ringy-dingy-ding-dong
And every time I wonder
If the world is right
End up in some disco
Dancing all night

This is not a concept with which I am familiar.
I mean, Jeeeez, do the Mets even have a winning record when leading after 7 innings?

Yes as it turns out (amazing what you can find these days in such a short time) 26-4 in fact.
But here's the killer in late inning stats and the reason why it seems like they lose so many games late: when entering the 7th inning tied they're a whopping 3-8, they're also 2-9 in games when they enter the 8th inning tied, and 2-12 when they begin the 9th tied. Now some of those games are duplicates (game tied after 7 is still tied after 8, etc.) so you just can't add those all up and declare that because of the bullpen they've lost 29 winnable games ... but, man, that still suxxx!

I just remember a remark (I think from Swannie) during one of those 'What's on Your IPod' threads concerning someone's list that had something like four MWH songs on it; "The mothers of the group members of MWH don't have four MWH songs on their IPods"

We HAVE to get into the office of one of those new Mets marketing execs and start lobbying for a MWH postgame show.

Hey here's a good idea for you Zach, why not try going to a 3-ball count on every single hitter in the Padres lineup and see if that improves the results.

Re: IGT 6/14/14 SDP @ NYM: Clash of the Titans (The Remake)

* I consider the fact that my power went out for over an hour this afternoon right in the middle of today's game to be a blessing.

* In all, I'd prefer to think of one of those days where if you're going to not hit, not pitch, and not field, you might as well do them all at the same time rather than ruin another game - but the hitting was so pathetic in this one (even our line drives were weak) that there's nothing good to be taken out of this day.

* And has every pitcher who got his first career hit done so off the NYM pitching staff this year or does it just seem that way? Seriously, that's got to be at least four this season. I think there have been more first-time hits this season by opposing pitchers against Met pitchers than there have been hits of any kind BY Met pitchers (sans deGrom).

* Don't know what to think about Wheeler.
Between the walks, the constant 3-ball counts whether they eventually result in walks or not, the two-out hits, the high pitch counts even when not giving up runs, and so on, it's like he's incapable of pitching a good game even on days when he has good stuff.
And Gee's starting to pitch and he's got to go somewhere.
