Not to get too overconfident but Big Fat Bartolo Colon is gonna drive this thing right up Fredi Gonzalez's ass.

I'm ugly and have to move my car. I'll be right back...

Re: Alternate Side Parking IGT 7/10/14

Atlanta at NY Mets
When: 7:10 PM ET, Thursday, July 10, 2014
Where: Citi Field, New York City, New York
SportsDirect Inc.

Bartolo Colon continues the revitalization of his career at age 41, while Aaron Harang has made the most of what some suspected would be his last chance at age 36. Harang takes the mound for the Atlanta Braves in the finale of a four-game series Thursday at the New York Mets, and Colon will pitch for the hosts in a matchup of two eight-game winners. Colon fired seven shutout innings against the Braves on April 8 in Atlanta, a 4-0 New York victory in which Harang only allowed one run.

Colon and the Mets aim to finish a sweep of the Braves, who have lost four in a row due to an inability to hit with runners in scoring position. Atlanta is 5-for-38 with runners on second and/or third during their skid, which followed a nine-game winning streak. The Mets are 11-5 in their past 16 contests at home and play their final four games before the All-Star break at Citi Field.

TV:
7:10 p.m. ET, SportSouth (Atlanta), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Braves RH Aaron Harang (8-6, 3.67 ERA) vs. Mets RH Bartolo Colon (8-7, 4.04)

Harang, who signed with the Braves after Cleveland released him near the end of spring training, has won his past three starts while allowing seven earned runs in 21 innings. He beat Arizona Saturday, giving up three earned runs in eight innings. Harang is 1-1 with a 0.69 ERA against the Mets this season, including seven no-hit innings April 18 at New York.

Colon is 36-22 since the start of 2012. He allowed five runs in each of his past two outings, following a seven-start stretch in which Colon went 6-0 with a 1.58 ERA and a .191 opponents batting average. Colon is 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA in two starts against Atlanta this season.

WALK-OFFS:
1. New York RHP Jenrry Mejia earned his team-high ninth save in Wednesday’s victory and is one of seven different Mets relievers who have at least one.
2. The Braves have allowed 32 runs in their past seven losses, 23 of those scoring with two outs.
3. Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez told reporters he does not anticipate C Evan Gattis – currently on the disabled list with a back injury – being ready immediately after the All-Star break.

Yadier Molina goes on the DL and should be out for between 2 and 3 months. I'm soooo sorry. What a shame.

Too bad the Mets don't play STL during that time so we don't have to hear Gary fawn all over him.

Just got home... to this? Guys.

For a big ol' shamblin', change-uppin' pile of humanity, Bart sure knows how to tiptoe through trouble. Thanks be that Harang's bunting efforts are about the same as the Forum's posting ones during the first four frames.

I was being superstitious. I still am. I could not visit the board until the Mets got on the board.
Please forgive me :(

3-1 Not the Mets. Comeback starts ....now.

This is my last post until we score again. If they score again.....I may have something to say about it. But Gary has assured me that BoFat is going to keep us in the game.

Edited 2 time(s), most recently on Jul 10 2014 07:08 PM

That was between innings, bruvva-- limited-commercial-interruption night, sponsored by Citi.

Matlack now... they've lined up some premium filler for this thing.

Re: Alternate Side Parking IGT 7/10/14

Am always surprised at the level of detail that pitchers can remember (batters too in their own way), in this case it's Matlack talking about the pitch, location, and call of the pitch before the one that was lined off his head.

Re: Alternate Side Parking IGT 7/10/14

Bart's done a nice job of working the zone (especially for a guy who isn't so much, y'know, into the Zone) since the first couple of innings (3 baserunners since the 3rd).

And from the 'Irony can be so Ironic' department: Molina injured the thumb after grabbing 3rd base to steady himself following a feet-first slide.

Brandon Phillips of the Reds also needs surgery on his thumb but he did that on defense.

I'm sure somebody is tracking this but if you told me no team has a better Challenge Won-Lost record than the Mets I'd totally believe it.

But the bench is only so wide these days. Gotta pinch hit for Lagares. And also Tejada. And Eric Young, too. And the pitcher.

Re: Alternate Side Parking IGT 7/10/14

I thought from early on that Bartolo really didn't have it tonight but he turned it into a decent start.

Pitcher Hitting Eighth resulted in three innings where Young lead off.

Fun time at the park in those "Murphy specials" - 2 really-quite-good seats for $28 (total! Not each) - one of the best promos the Mets have had in quite a while.

Re: Alternate Side Parking IGT 7/10/14

I think there was only one that I saw, very close play but to the Mets favor.

I'm thinking not just of "winning" challenges, which any good team ought to do, but having a disproportionate number of calls overturned in our favor vs. opponents successfully challenging our gains away. That may just be my perception. but if accurate would confirm a longstanding suspicion that the Mets routinely get screwed over more than anyone.

Thanks. That would be the Colon at first play. Yea, the one at second was last night.

I dunno JCL. I'm curious though. I think any fan that follows a team tightly and sees a lot of plays, or even just pitches, tends to feel like their team is holding the short end of the stick.
