What's the best little appie wappie to get scores and
news updates quickly and easily.

I had ESPN SC (score center) and it kinda sucks app.
Then I found out it is the top data stealer on my craapy
phone. So I deleted the pest.

Snide remarks by Appleheads may be subject to rebuke.

You use Twitter to get, say, the ATL vs CUBS game?

Didn't know about Google Now until just NOW.
Looks interesting.

Trying CBS Sports app for a spin. It was rated
#2 on some list I pulled up.

Like C mentioned Goole Now, you can add your fave sports/teams and it just updates....and it is getting better all the time....twitter too....i find there is no need now for dedicated apps for scores...they just hog shit.....if you search Cubs score next thing you know you will be seeing updates on there game, it is kind of crazy cool now Google does that shit.

I follow enough people on Twitter that usually anything remotely pertinent to me is there.

But between the MLB app if I want specific scores or simply Google Now's home screen which usually lists all the games (hell, it usually lists the Mets and/or Yankees in the notifications drop down) I've never found a need for a dedicated app. Plus since I log into chrome on my browser it tends to know what games I'm interested in as well.

I just don't get Twitter, and when I go there on my
laptop there's like 100 things from just one day and
nothing on my phone. Not that I want that on my
phone.

#guessimadino

Will explore Google Now over the weekend.

Requires a decent amount of initial investment by you to really get use out of Twitter. Google Now is more passive, but still needs the seed of you using it and Googling things. I just checked now and it's got a bunch of scores, my stocks, the weather, and some sports articles that pertain to the Mets and one to the NY Rangers (dunno how that snuck in there) and blessedly, no LeBron because it knows I don't care. No cards today but it often'll update me on TV shows I've googled when they have a new episode coming up. I see the Jeopardy one every day which is just 'duh' but nice effort I guess.

Because it's Saturday it doesn't have a navigation card to estimate my time to work (and tell me how much over/under the average that is), nor does it tell me where my car is parked because it knows I'm home. But if it was a work day, and there was significantly higher travel times, it'd send an alert to let me know.

Yep, one of my fave features of Google Now is traffic alerts for my daily commute....only the other day it alerted me to heavy traffic feeding in to the Hutch from the Cross County , advised me to go another route ...

Google Now will also remind you where you parked your car.

Re: Android app Discussion Thread

This might be a dumb question, because I think I've
done it before ... but how do I remove my pictures from
my phone? When I connect a usb cable to it, I can't find
a way to open my phone storage in Windows.

I googled a little, but hoping for a better (faster) answer
from a CPF'r!

I don;t really know but...

Sometimes your phone needs to be told when it's a drive or just charging, when plugged to another thing.

I've found when my phone is "asleep" when I plug it to a computer it does not allow access but if awake, I get a prompt.

Re: Android app Discussion Thread

varies so it's not easy to guess your directory structure, which phone?

you may have to click a USB icon on your notifications bar and change it to 'media' or something.

Depends if you save to your phone or your card.

There's a folder, somewhere, that reads 'DCIM' probably. those are your pictures.

On my S5 it's literally SD card > DCIM > Camera or Device Storage > DCIM > Camera

Re: Android app Discussion Thread

Thanks to you both.
I found and changed some setting (should have paid better
attention) to 'MASS STORAGE' and the drive popped up almost
immediately in Win Explorer. And yes, the pictures are in the
directory 'DCIM.'
Now I have to figure out what I did and set it back to
the way it was after I move pictures.

I guess I should 'MOUNT SD CARD' to get it back?
It said 'DISMOUNT SD CARD' before on this screen
I'm looking at.

I used to be much more adventurous!

mounting is basically letting other applications use it. So you mount it and the computer uses it or something like that. probably auto-corrects when you unplug. or yeah, just click that.

Re: Android app Discussion Thread

Thanks ... yeah I remember mounting from my other operating
system days. It would let me do that, and the camera wouldn't
work and told me to do that, I turned it off and took the battery
out for ten seconds and when I restarted it found the card.
Thanks again.

So yeah, now it's working without doing anything. When I
plug in it automatically goes to mass storage and when I un-
plug it goes back to dcim (takes a minute to prepare it) but
I'm happy!
