IGT 07/26 -- Mets at Brew Crew -- Oh, Can We Have More O?

NY Mets at Milwaukee
When: 7:10 PM ET, Saturday, July 26, 2014
Where: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
SportsDirect Inc.

The New York Mets look to ride the momentum of an improbable victory when they visit the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday in the third contest of a four-game set. New York struck for three ninth-inning runs – the final two on Lucas Duda’s 17th homer of the season – to record a 3-2 victory Friday to halt Milwaukee’s four-game winning streak. The Mets are 4-4 on a 10-game road trip that began with stops in San Diego and Seattle.

The Brewers were on the verge of extending their lead in the National League Central to four games before closer Francisco Rodriguez blew his fourth save of the season. Outfielder Ryan Braun had his 12-game hitting streak halted with a 0-for-4 effort while Carlos Gomez homered to give the Brewers 10 long balls over their last four games. New York third baseman David Wright has three two-hit outings in the past five games while Duda has homered in three of the last four games, including each of the first two games of this series.

TV:
7:10 p.m. ET, WPIX (New York), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Mets LH Jonathon Niese (5-5, 3.13 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Wily Peralta (11-6, 3.58)

Niese lost to Seattle in his last start in his return from a shoulder ailment. He allowed four runs and a season-worst 11 hits while striking out six in six innings. Niese is 2-0 with a 4.64 ERA in six career starts against Milwaukee, including a no-decision June 12 when he gave up one run and six hits over 7 2/3 innings.

Peralta has won seven of his past eight decisions and his next victory will surpass last season’s win total. He has allowed one earned run and six hits in 14 innings over his last two turns, winning both decisions. He is 2-0 with a 0.63 ERA in two career starts against the Mets, including a win June 11 in which he allowed one runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett (quadriceps) is expected to miss his fourth consecutive contest.
2. New York RF Curtis Granderson is 0-for-16 with 10 strikeouts over his last four games.
3. Milwaukee 3B Aramis Ramirez (6-for-16, two homers) and C Jonathan Lucroy (5-for-15) have fared well against Niese.

CYoung in center? Ugh. At least Abreu is gathering splinters. Where's Newy!?
Oh yea.....
Have a huge game CYoung or I will be starting my 2014 Shit List™ with your name at the top.

Amazing that I haven't started that list yet.

Great job getting first blood.

Love to see the road grays. Conversely, never liked the Brewers' mustard dropshadow.

Curtis McGurtis, indeed.

Meanwhile, Wright totally slagged it down the line there.

And catchers kinda need to do that!

Re: IGT 07/26 -- Mets at Brew Crew -- Oh, Can We Have More O

- the flair that Lagares would have had that CYoung didn't (both because he's faster and that he plays more shallow)
- the non-block of the curve in the dirt
- and the lack of a throwing arm in RF which allowed the tag prior to the wild pitch and also gave us no shot at getting the runner at home on the Braun single

But of course all of that could have be overcome had Niese not giving up three consecutive two-out hits.

I think Wright's chopper to 3rd is the only wood Mets bats have gotten on the ball since the Brews went to the pen.
It's that plus about 7 Ks

Re: IGT 07/26 -- Mets at Brew Crew -- Oh, Can We Have More O

Speaking of shifts, teams should take all three of their OFs and plant them in LCF, LF, and the LF corner whenever Chris Young in up.
It's not like they give up any hits doing that and they may just save themselves a bunch.

I'm wondering if Niese is going to say something after the game.
Between the quick hook tonight, the one where he got yanked after getting winged by that line drive, and the unwanted DL stint just prior to the ASB, I have a feeling he's not exactly a happy camper right about now and might be ready to go off the reservation to say so.

We brought the young one to her first Mets game tonight. She got antsy, so we left after the Brewers took the lead in the 5th (it was longer than we were expecting her to hold out).

The best part of the night was meeting the Lunchbucket fam vacationing in Wisconsin. We all did a little tailgating prior to the game. Meeting them was a blast and I will gladly tailgate with anyone from the Crane Pool coming to Wisco.

My seats were right next to the WPIX camera from high above home plate and I'm pretty sure my baby and I got on TV at the beginning of the second inning. I'm blacked out until 90 minutes after the game, so I'll have to review in the morning.

Let's split tomorrow.

Re: IGT 07/26 -- Mets at Brew Crew -- Oh, Can We Have More O

Great time. Couldn't have gone better meeting the Monk family, love our fancy hotel room, terrific seats at the ballpark, caught a t-shirt and got on big-screen as backgrounders in the late innings. But spent the whole night locked in disagreement with douchy smug visiting Mets fan seated in front of us who believed firm;ly that pathagorean wins were fiction, that Wagner and Rodriguez were good investments, that Eric Young should play everyday, and so on. Geez.

I had NO IDEA that the key to brats was the boil.

MLB.TV cut all but a millisecond of my daughter's small screen debut. I was trying to get her to look in the camera, but she wanted to see what was happening down below. Gary points out her rapt attention prior to plugging fireworks night.
