Reports coming out now suggesting nascar driver Tony Stewart ran over a fellow driver who'd gotten out of his car following an on track incident.

Apparently there's still some belief that he will race at today's race at Watkins Glen.

No offense, but given the depressing nature of it AND the actual news value of it, I think this is a news story from which I will willfully opt-out.

I didn't watch the basketball player injure his leg last week and I'm definitely not going to watch this one. May the late driver rest in peace.

I skipped the hoops player vid also.
I did see this one--obviously horrific but not blood-and-guts grisly as videos go.

I think it's pretty apparent from the amateur film that the original wreck seemed intentional.
Whether the later fatal one was also is subject to interpretation and I suspect that within the NASCAR community some are going to reach their conclusion based on their preexisting like/dislike of Stewart. Opinions run strong in that sport and I think it's going to be tough for some to divorce their reading of the video from their feeling on those involved going in.

Re: athletes are douchebags

Victim was foolish to do that; you think baseball has a problem when catchers get hurt in home plate collisions; the post-fender-bender, on-track fist-shake has become so common in auto racing its a wonder people haven't been run over before.

Stewart though. A long record as a hothead and admired such as it is for being the kind of driver "who will run over you to win." He's such a competitor that even though he makes millions every Sunday afternoon, spends Saturday nights racing 20-year-olds on dinky dirt tracks. Evidently those cars are known to fishtail upon command, and a lot of the experienced viewers believe he meant at least to have posed the threat of doing that.

I'd be concerned he himself has a kind of deathwish.

Pretty stupid to get out of your vehicle on a live track just to wag your finger in someone's face.

You don't have to be too smart to drive a race car. You only have to remember two things:
1) Drive fast
2) Turn left.

Business as usual at NASCAR's web-site celebrating
'Dinger's win at Watkins ... small headline about the
"incident."

Unbelievable.
