Random Musings on SNY

Somewhat inspired by the Burkhardt thread.

I'm tough on the Wilpons, but overall, I think they did a great job with their network. The coverage is Mets-centered enough that it feels like a Mets network. But the coverage is neutral enough that I don't feel like it is just a propoganda machine for the organization. Maybe because they coupled with the Daily News, I feel like the network's anchors don't pull any punches in their criticism of the team.

As to individuals:

Gary, Keith and Ron: Love them. I think the kids that grow up on these guys will feel the same way about them that my generation felt about McCarver and Kiner. Let's hope none of them turn douchy later on in their careers.

Gary Apple: Good guy. No complaints.

Kerith Burke: Love her. Easy on the eyes too.

Bob Ojeda: Mixes in some actual analysis with some bullshit and cliches. Ok in small doses. I only tune into the post-game after wins, so it ends up being small doses.

Chris Carlin: I don't understand this at all. Talks funny. Is not smart. Is not funny. (and it's worse because he thinks he IS funny). Adds nothing in terms of insight or analysis. Not an unlikeable guy, but just a very strange pick for such a frontline position at the network.

Michelle Yu: Can't stand her. Awkward delivery. Gets shit wrong. Reminds me of annoying girls at the bar who act like they know sports, are opinionated about things, then undermine their credibility by saying things like "Home Base" and "Wilbur Flores".

Jim Duquette: Surprisingly good in a limited role for a guy with not much personality. Still hate him for Kazmir trade, but maybe hate him a little less.

Gary, Keith and Ron: Gold. I wish they didn't tend to do so many games not as a trio.

Gary Apple: Same.

Kerith Burke: She's fine.

Bob Ojeda: Despise him. He can go. old-school blow-hard in my opinion and I usually make a point to turn off the tv before post game because of him.

Chris Carlin:" Adds nothing in terms of insight or analysis. Not an unlikeable guy, but just a very strange pick for such a frontline position at the network. " Pretty much. I don't really have a problem with him, you do needs guys to sorta state the obvious and lead the conversation, but isn't that basically what Gary Apple is for?

Michelle Yu: I'm drawing a blank on who she is. I really don't watch SNY for non-games.

Jim Duquette: Okay in a limited role. He's on SNY? Thought he was on WOR?

I don't even feel like looking up the names, but none of the fill-ins for Burkhardt are worth keeping.

not Mets-related, but if you are a Jets fan, the Jets Postgame on SNY is a must-watch.

Yes! G-Fafif has dubbed it Jetsivus - it's hysterical!

Re: Random Musings on SNY

the Jets coverage is WAY better than the Mets coverage. Ray Lucas rocks.

As for the Mets:
- I like Gary Thorne alot. A professional broadcaster with informed opinions but he lets the jocks do most of the analysis.
- Keith and Ron: the dynamic duo. They're fun and obviously offer great insights, and i like them, but they lean a bit too heavily on jockspeak and macho posturing for my tastes. Speaking of which:
- Bobby O. Honest and opinionated, as far as that goes, but his "old school" BS wears thin quickly.
- Gary Apple is pleasant enough, in a nondescript way.
- Kevin Burkhart was great. He offered thoughtful commentary from the sidelines and did excellent interviews, finding the human interest in his stories.
- I don't know who the women are that were mentioned. They left absolutely no impression on me, which is unusual for what I assume are attractive young women.
- I want to smack Jim Duquette's semi-bald head over and over, screaming "you assclown." Speaking of clowns and big fat bald heads:
- Chris Carlin. I didn't mind him on FAN, when he teamed with a woman broadcaster for a while (I don't remember her name; it was something Jones). They had a good chemistry. And SHE was smart, at least. But seeing that bulbous noodle atop that potato body, with mindless quips and pointless drivel drooling from his gaping maw, makes me want to hit myself in the head repeatedly with a ball peen hammer.

Kim Jones on FAN with Carlin a few years ago. she seemed okay. Actually the occasional women they've had on have been decent imo (I haven't listened in years now) but I guess there's a higher bar they probably have to reach.

She, if I recall correctly, was accusing, or convicted, of feeding Girardi softball questions in postgame interviews.

Anybody else notice that Keith's impatience and occasional bouts of intellectual laziness come more frequently when Ronnie's not around? I'd like to renew my request that, if they can't get all three of them in there for 162 games, then at least try a rotating cast of characters --- perhaps a few different pitchers to sit in during RJ's absences and a few different hitters to welcome during Keith's absences.

I dunno. I'm rarely a fan of three in the booth. This one happens to work but on days when one of the jocks is missing I don't necessarily want to import someone just to have three again or just so Keith's mind doesn't wander (if indeed it is more common sans Ronnie).
