I thought this was threaded already.

Five Hollywood actors play themselves at an awful Hollywood party at James Franco's new home. When the Rapture strikes during a convenience store run, the runners/protagonists (Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen) head back to the party, everything goes pell mell, and the boys try and hold out as demons run loose and anarchy breaks out among the sinners left behind.

i laughed my ass off and appreciated the self-deprecating mockery of pretentious Hollywood bullshit.

In strangely inappropriate times, I find myself recalling the line, "So... Hermione just stole all our shit..." and laughing out loud.

I recall some LOLing and also, a feeling that it went on way too long.

Emma Watson was the best thing about the whole movie and she's on screen for two minutes at most. The 'guys' are tiring. The world's ending and they whine too much. And the ending is beyond hokey/contrived.

The party scene at the beginning was great, as was the impalement, strange as that sounds. After that, eh. But Hermione screaming, "I'm not f*cking around!!!!" was priceless.

2 1/2 stars. It was half-good.

So, the actors are playing themselves?
Jay Baruchel (I had to look him up) has one Orthodox Jewish Grandfather and is a "self proclaimed agnostic".
Seth Rogen is Jewish. He attended a Talmud Torah and his parents met on a Kibbutz.

So, why are they concerned about "the Rapture"? It wasn't in the Bible of their (grand)fathers.
Were they traumatized by moving from Canada to the United States? Lorne Greene and William Shatner weren't.
Whatever the cause, why should they worry?
Feh.
A Shonda!

(I'm removing my tongue from my cheek now, but still won't see this. Sounds dumb.)

They should worry because whatever's happening doesn't particularly seem to care if they're Jewish or not.

You're right. In fact, they're probably wondering WTF is happening.
Anyhow, I prefer more believable, mature movie themes.
I can't wait for Sharknado 3.

Re: This Is the End (2013)

I recently found out some interesting background info about this film from my sis; As all actors are playing themselves -- each character dies in reverse order to the likeness of their real life persona - e.g. Michael Cera dies first, is least like his real life counterpart. Knowledge of this fact demands a re-watch and it's especially damning on Channing Tatum.

Also the Montreal Canadiens used "Backsteet's Back" as their playoff rally song in 2014, no doubt because Jay Baruchel is their biggest celebrity fan.

I gave it 4 stars.
