Mets begin the upending of defending division champion Washington on the road at Nationals Park. The lineups may or may not look something like this.

Assuming everyone's healthy on Opening Day, I'd bet that Harvey won't get the start. I'd bet on either Niese (seniority) or deGrom (best Mets pitcher, 2014 and possibly, reigning ROY).

Nats suck. Getting that in early.

Certainly may not be Harvey, but seniority doesn't fly very much anymore.

Ceetar Oct 14 2014 02:52 PM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |

It'll be Harvey. I could see a 'hey, let's give the RoY the start!" argument, but it'll be Harvey. hmm, Harvey-deGrom-Wheeler-Colon-Gee (Niese is traded) with deGrom lined up for the Home Opener.

I guess I had either overlooked or not taken seriously Asdrubal Cabrera's free agency. For now, the Nats' stuck-ness with Danny Esipnosa is somewhat analogous to the Mets and Ruben Tejada. Only, you know, mores.

Hints of (a) lineup shuffling, and (b) saving Matt Harvey for the home opener coming from Met circles (Terry).
|
d'Kong76 Dec 17 2014 02:32 PM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |

Guess Terry, like seemingly everyone else, doesn't need to see Harvey throw a few innings in spring training.
|
Edgy MD Dec 23 2014 10:50 PM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
So, for giggles and shingles, how do you imagine the lineup changes with Tulowitzki?
|
Ceetar Dec 24 2014 07:53 AM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
|
I don't think Wright gets bumped, though I've been suggesting Wright as leadoff or second for a while. How about Wright, Granderson, Tulowitzki, Duda, Cuddyer, Murphy, Lagares, d'Arnaud, Pitcher? hmm.. Honestly I can't arrange those 9 players in a way that doesn't feel like slighting someone.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Dec 24 2014 10:52 AM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
If your lineup has d'Arnaud or Lagares batting eighth, well, sir... that's a pretty savory lineup.
|
Edgy MD Dec 24 2014 12:56 PM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
Are you really advocating den Dekker playing against lefties? As the roster seems to break, he's not even positioned to make the team right now, let alone get reverse-platoon starts.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Dec 24 2014 10:20 PM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
|
I'd forgotten who our righty fourth OF would be (Campbell?). My thinking was, if we're going to start a guy who can't hit lefties, he might as well be defensively superlative.
|
Edgy MD Dec 25 2014 11:29 AM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
I'm working from the assumption that none of our left-handed batters are an automatic sit against lefties, but my guess is when Granderson sits, it'll be in favor of Mayberry in right, and when Duda sits, it'll be in favor of Mayberry in left and Cuddyer at first.

Hints out there in reports that the Mets are strongly considering Colon for their opening day start, with the report stating that the choice has been narrowed down to him and one other non-specified pitcher. (Marcos Molina!)
|
Ceetar Feb 27 2015 10:10 AM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
In a way I kinda am fine with Colon. means more starts for him which showcases him better, and he's the arm you care about least so cold weather and all that.

Thanks for the update. McLouth had a really tough season with Washington last year, but Taylor has never done anything as a big leaguer. Reports have Taylor scheduled to get the bulk of the reps, but I'm going to pencil NMcL in there for now.

That's spectacular. I hope Colon takes him down.
|
Frayed Knot Apr 01 2015 10:08 AM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
Now with Rendon a certainty to miss OD and probably the whole series ("he's off to see Dr. James Andrews" are never good things to hear if you're looking toward a quick rebound) the Nats are talking about SS-turned-2B Yunel Escobar shifting to 3rd base with I guess Danny Espinosa manning 2B.

Edgy MD Apr 04 2015 06:45 AM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |

I'm not giving up on Murphy until/unless events of today warrant it, but the nationals seem pretty set to be without Rendon and virtually Werthless.
That's certainly not the lineup they wanted, but it's a deep and capable one nonetheless. That's three starters sidelined on opening day, plus setup reliever Casey Janssen out with rotator cuff tendinitis.

|
Ceetar Apr 04 2015 07:46 AM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
|||
Likewise, Looking forward to getting a mix of radio and TV on the first game. It being Easter and 'transfer beer to secondary' weekend should make it go faster. And I have a daughter/doctor thing to deal with on Tuesday to keep me busy through the worst baseball day of the year. I'm more impatient for the wait until the _next_ Monday, when I get back to Citi for the first time in like 8 months. Word is Murphy is going to meet the team in Washington. This seems..I dunno. I feel like if they were confident he was ready to go they'd have brought him to Texas and at least gave him DH swings. Maybe he's with the team OD, then goes back to Extended Spring and meets the team in NY.
|
Frayed Knot Apr 04 2015 07:49 AM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
They don't want to play Murphy in Texas because then if they do need to DL him they couldn't back-date it.
|
Ceetar Apr 04 2015 07:52 AM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
|
Right right, my point is if he's in Washington with the intent to have him in the OD lineup, it seems silly not to have given him the reps in Texas. Unless he's there for a gameday decision (which it can't be, since it needs to be finalized today). Or simply to be with the team Opening Day and then go back to extended Spring.
|
Edgy MD Apr 04 2015 08:53 AM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |
Doesn't seem silly to me. If he can get reps in minor league games without necessarily activating him, but not in major league ones, that's a healthy and strategic way to proceed.
|
Ashie62 Apr 04 2015 03:59 PM Re: IGT: Mets @ Nats, 4/6/2015 |

I don't think we were supposed to win this one and we did. This makes me extra happy.

I'm hearing it's Mejia's elbow. Jeeze. I knew they wouldn't consider leaving Familia in for the 9th, and hurt Mejia or not, they should have considered it.

Anywhich, Terry and the Mets get some degree of vindication for going with Colon.

I still don't like Lags not leading off. Like I've said before, like Ronnie said today. You don't groom a guy to lead off, have him excel, and then not lead him off. TC will say he's protecting him from...what? The pressure? Bullshit. Every game counts. Time to take off the kid gloves T.C., and if you want Laggy to be the lead off guy, don't fuck with his head. Let him lead off.

Granderson led all of baseball in OBP during Spring Training. That's not nothing. I'm sure Lagares will get his chances.

The next big "innovators" in baseball are going to be the first team to turn back the clock and realize they should be using their most effective relievers for multiple innings at a time in less total performances. this also saves roster spaces to make better use of platoon-hitters or guys who can hit but cant even fake the field to be pinch-hit only guys

"have him excel" would be a grossly exagerated version of what Lagares did as a hitter in 2014. His defense makes him a valuable contributor and his bat plays at that position, but a .321 OBP isnt "excelling" at leading off. Granderson wasn't much better, but the near 100 point difference in Granderson's BA & OBP tell me he is more likely to finish with the higher OBP this year as walk-drawing tends to be more consistent than hitting.
