There are plenty of lousy teammates in the Hall.

I got kicked off of that page. Guy that runs it (Ron?) is all heart but emotionally mercurial. Fantastically so. Then he begged me come back, re-adding me a couple of times without my consent.

I got booted once, and quit once too. Forget which order.

That guy thinks his shit don't stink. Good luck to Gil. I really hope he gets in. I'd like to say it looks good but aside from the FB page I don't hear much about the situation.

Very strange guy...and not in a good or fun or eccentric way. Proceed with caution.

IIRC, Minoso, Tiant or Olivo would be the first Cuban-born player elected to the Hall on the general ballot.

Tony Pérez made it on the really general ballot, voted in by the BBWAA.

Thanks for the "gotcha'".

In general agreement with Edgy. Allen's on top of the heap in terms of numbers without a doubt. Hodges should've been in 30 years ago. Oliva's hurt by a somewhat abbreviated period of greatness.

If I'm gonna trash one I really should commend the other. Mr. Bill Hall has done a magnificent job organizing and pushing the Gil Into The Hall Drive. He seems like a great guy and he's put a lot of work into the cause. If Gil makes it into the hall this round, Mr. Hall deserves much of the credit.

To be fair, I really wonder if all that is going to be a hindrance to Hodges' case. The whole point of the reconstituted, and set of rotating three distinct "era" groups, committee is to do away with the perceived rampant campaigning and cronyism that caused many of Frankie Frisch's teammates on the 1920s and 1930s Cardinals and Giants inducted in the 1960s and 1970s and Phil Rizzuto in 1994. Along with oddities like the alleged reason Rick Ferrell got inducted (the story was that an old GM or owner lobbied each member of the committee to give a then ailing Ferrell a sympathy vote) or the fact that Charlie Gehringer was such a Yankee hater that he never voted for a Yankee, ever. Granted you can make a case that stuff like the This Old Cub documentary, and the Cubs retiring #10 was part of a campaign ahead of Ron Santo's posthumous election in 2012, but for the most part, all three committees have been real air tight when it comes to players, to the point where Santo and Joe Gordon are the only post 1900 players to get in through this particular door. So it is conceivable that a social media movement for Hodges could be looked at as a negative by the voters. Almost like their hand is going to be forced, and they'll look no better than the one that they replaced.

It's also probably the first time they had to deal with a campaign that was totally brought forth thru social media. The things you mention were perpetrated by people "inside" the game. This Gil Hodges thing is brought to the forefront by regular people like you and I. And that's the important thing for me. That fans of the man are still going to bat for him, even over 40 years after his passing. That should mean something to this committee. If the fb drive to get him in hurts his chances, something is really wrong.
