Baptismal

So, Lorcan is getting baptized November 16th.....ok, time to back up nearly seven years. As his parents we both decided not to baptize Lorcan as a baby as neither of us were practicing catholics . I was raised catholic and never had a bad experience growing up. I was an alter boy in school. Yet with all the terrible goings on in Ireland with the church I became disillusioned.

Yet, when it came time for Lorcan to go to school we both felt catholic school would be best and that when he started to receive religious instruction and if he was really into it then we would get him baptized. Fast forward the last two years and Lorcan loves religion class and increasingly would talk about all he learned in religion class and going to church weekly with is class.

So , all in all we are both very happy with this decision as we feel that this is what he wants, I will take him to church and feel very strongly now about getting back to it through my son.

Our new parish priest Father Derivan is great, grandparents from County Kerry , he could not have been more excited and happy when I talked to him this week about getting Lorcan baptized, no judging went on , just very happy.

So tonight we had a meeting in the church with Fr. Derivan , one other family was there with a child aged 4, he explained what would happen, Lorcan was all excited.

Mazel Tov - it sounds like Lorcan is being baptized for all the right reasons :)

Re: Baptismal

Thank you guys, yew we both feel good about this as we know this is what he wants. Last week he asked us if he was baptized, we told him no but as his parents we have talked about it and that if he wants we would do it but it would mean going to church each Sunday . Lorcan could not have been happier, and we saw that in his eyes tonight when we entered the church , how he acted etc. and again when Fr. Derivan walked in and came over to him .

When my family in Ireland were aghast at the time of his birth I simply explained that we would not be getting him baptized for appearances sake.

Question , I guess Edgy or Liam could help here. How much $$ should I give the priest?

Metirish, this is a beautiful story :) I know your priest and the people in this church are going to be very happy to have such a happy child attending.

As for the $$, maybe you could ask the church secretary what is customary.
