The English Patient meets Out of Africa

We rented it in anticipation of Academy Awards nominations, figuring that it has a shot at some major ones based on its Golden Globe nominations. It features terrific acting by Ralph Fiennes and Rachiel Weisz, and the plot does keep you guessing, but overall I didn't love this one. The filming went back and forth between beautiful cinematography and jerky hand-held technique, which I never enjoy. The movie was only two hours long, but it seemed longer - everything is just very slow paced.

It's not horrible. It's just not compelling.

I've read the book so I'm not sure I want to see the movie, and after reading your review I probably won't.
