Winter Caravan?

Anyone know when the Mets Winter Caravan is? I was kinda hoping it was today (they're having a baby shower for my wife today, so I'm looking for something to do), but there aren't any indications of it at all on the Mets' site.

A google search for "mets caravan january 2006" brings me to Anna Benson's site, where she mentions she'll be there, January 23-26. So there you go.

Mike and the Mad Dog are doing their Wednesday show at the caravan.

No mention of where exactly it is though.

Carlos Delgado, Paul LoDuca, Billy Wagner and David Wright will be ringing the NYSE Opening Bell Tuesday morning.

Caught the end of an announcement on radio that the Mets are holding a blood drive at Shea this week. If you give blood, you get two tickets to a 2006 game. But I didn't get the phone number you have to call for more info.

Damn cheapass Mets management doing all they can to suck the blood out of their sheep-like fans.

That's the post of the day right there. Beautiful. And I did not see it coming. (SC = zero)

Don't make me laugh out loud at work, dammit.

And I thought it was such a no-brainer, I was rushing to post it first.

Maybe I wasn't expecting it since I read yours immediately after reading his. Got me before I had a chance to think. It's still funny.

This is a tough crowd.
Never thought I'd see a negative reaction to a blood drive.
Of course, I never considered the image of Met management draining the blood from their fans before I posted that, either.
LOL!

Floyd is CAHN-fident

]FLOYD SEES AN AMAZIN' DIFFERENCE

By MICHAEL MORRISSEY

For Cliff Floyd, hope is now a four-letter word.

With the Mets' influx of talent, Floyd told The Post yesterday that his club should make a legitimate postseason pursuit in 2006.

That would be a marked contrast from his first three seasons in New York, when Floyd acknowledged the playoffs were essentially a pipe dream.

"We're in good shape," Floyd said at the team's new midtown TV headquarters. "We can honestly say we can contend.

"That's what this team is put together to be. We're not put together to just go out there and play and get through 162 games and hope.

"No more hoping."

Floyd, in town for the Mets caravan that begins today, wants to replace hope with confidence. The Mets made strides in '05, he noted, but they need to think and feel like winners.

"See, most teams beat you on confidence," he explained. "A lot of teams don't beat you on pure talent.

"Because the Braves, talent-wise, weren't better than us. Confidence-wise, they were.

"Until the [NL] East figures that out, it's going to be tough."

For all his optimism, Floyd admitted talk is cheap.

"You beat them on the field, you don't beat them by just going out there and putting a product out there," he said.

The Mets left fielder misses his buddy Mike Cameron, who was dealt to San Diego for Xavier Nady. But he likes the acquisition of Carlos Delgado, who will replace Floyd in the cleanup spot.

"I'm a dude who's going to help you win ballgames; he's a dude who's going to take you over the top," Floyd said.

Floyd praised former closer Braden Looper for pitching hurt but acknowledged Billy Wagner was an upgrade in the bullpen.

"We've got a bona fide closer now," he said. "Hopefully with Wags — without the pressure of him feeling like he has to be Superman — we should be fine."

SUBTEXT ANALYSIS

For Cliff Floyd, hope is now a four-letter word. HOW MANY LETTERS DID HE USE BEFORE?

With the Mets' influx of talent, Floyd told The Post yesterday that his club should make a legitimate postseason pursuit in 2006. '"'LEGITIMATE" IS CODE OF COURSE FOR "THE METS WERE STUPID BASTARDS LAST YEAR"

That would be a marked contrast from his first three seasons in New York, when Floyd acknowledged the playoffs were essentially a pipe dream. AND THEY DEALT WITH THAT REALITY SO OPENLY AND HONESTLY, TOO

"We're in good shape," Floyd said at the team's new midtown TV headquarters. "We can honestly say we can contend. THEY SAID SO LAST YEAR, BUT THAT WAS DISHONEST, I AGREE

"That's what this team is put together to be. We're not put together to just go out there and play and get through 162 games and hope. LAST YEAR'S HOPE, FOR EXAMPLE, WAS FOR JESUS CHRIST TO APPEAR AT SHEA AND PLAY A COUPLE OF CRUCIAL INNINGS, MAYBE PINCH-HIT IN KEY SPOTS NOW AND THEN

"No more hoping." HEY, THAT WAS [u:c791ded179]MY[/u:c791ded179] MOTTO LAST YEAR

Floyd, in town for the Mets caravan that begins today, wants to replace hope with confidence. The Mets made strides in '05, he noted, but they need to think and feel like winners. AND, TO PARAPHRASE ORSON WELLES IN 'CITIZEN KANE,' WITH STRIDES AT THAT RATE, THEY'LL WIN A PENNANT, TOO --IN ABOUT TWENTY YEARS

"See, most teams beat you on confidence," he explained. "A lot of teams don't beat you on pure talent. CLIFF HAS OBVIOUSLY HAD A LOT OF TIME TO THINK ABOUT THE VARIOUS WAYS TEAMS BEAT THE METS SENSELESS

"Because the Braves, talent-wise, weren't better than us. Confidence-wise, they were. YOU'D BE MORE CONFIDENT IF YOU HAD MORE TALENT, WOULDN'T YOU, O DEEP PHILOSOPHER?

"Until the [NL] East figures that out, it's going to be tough." YOU MIGHT WAIT A WHILE, CLIFF, FOR THE NL TO MATCH YOUR BRILLIANT THOUGHT FOR BRILLIANT THOUGHT

For all his optimism, Floyd admitted talk is cheap. 'TALK' IS CODE FOR 'WILPON' NOW?

"You beat them on the field, you don't beat them by just going out there and putting a product out there," he said. AN EXCELLENT ARTICULATION OF THE METS' STRATEGY FROM 2001 THROUGH 2005'--WE'LL BEAT THEM BY JUST PUTTING A PRODUCT ON THE FIELD!"

OF COURSE IF YOU HAD MORE DUDES TO HELP YOU WIN BALLGAMES IN THE FIRST PLACE, YOU MIGHT, UH, WIN MORE BALLGAMES, RIGHT?

Floyd praised former closer Braden Looper for pitching hurt but acknowledged Billy Wagner was an upgrade in the bullpen. THE DIRECT QUOTE WAS 'BRADEN SUCKED HAIRY MOOSE BALLS, AND THE STUPID FUCK WENT OUT THERE WHEN HE WAS TOO BANGED UP TO PITCH BETTER THAN MOLLY PUTZ, SO WAGS IS GOING TO BE LIKE SUPERMAN ON STEROIDS NEXT TO HIM NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES"

"We've got a bona fide closer now," he said. "Hopefully with Wags — without the pressure of him feeling like he has to be Superman — we should be fine." "HOPEFULLY?" WE'RE BACK TO FUCKING 'HOPEFULLY' ALREADY? GEE, THAT WAS FAST.

I have always had trouble with LoDuca's name, it always comes out DeLuca when I say it or think it. Maybe now, with practice, I can finally get it right.

Some photos from today at the NY Public Library:

Front, L to R: Matsui, LoDuca, Alomar, Peterson, Randolph, Valentin

LoDuca, Peterson, Randolph. Let any MBTN administrators we have lying around note Julio Franco (top right corner) wearing a jersey number ending in 3.

Carlos Delgado and some guy that the AP refers to as "Jay" Wright (perhaps David's long-lost twin brother) wave to the faithful at the NYSE.

Delgado, Wright, Wagner, LoDuca.

beat me to it. I was going to post the pic with Valentin in it since it looks like MBTN needed the info.

on edit: looks like Julio Franco is #23.
