Michael Keaton as a washed up actor from a superhero franchise, who tries to revive his career by directing and writing a Broadway play. Edward Norton as the unpredictable star and Emma Stone as Keaton's daughter.

This is by far my favorite film of the year so far. It's riveting and original, and Keaton turns in an amazing performance. A must see.

Keaton and Norton deserve Oscars and Emma Stone was pretty damn good, too. The movie went into all sorts of unexpected places and dealt with a bunch of fascinaing issues. It's funny, dramatic, and fascinating from start to finish.

I discovered that the cinematographer also did Gavity. That should give you a real "oh, yes" moment.

A great film from start to finish.

Agree with everyone here. A very good film.

Want to see at least in part because I wandered past the set while they were filming a couple of times in NYC last summer. Although not actually _through_ the set like I did for TMNT or August Rush.

Hmm... I'm still chewing on this.

One curious thing is that it has a lot of the same elements as Keaton's only other lead role of the last twenty years, Game 6 — burned out playwright wrestling with his desperate need for validation, saucing himself in Broadway watering holes, picking fights with critics, butting heads with an Avenger, watching his rival starting a relationship with his daughter, and a looming specter of handgun violence.

Nominated for seven Golden Globes (the most of any movie), including best actor, best supporting actress, and best comedy/musical.

The Golden Globes is a bit of a bogus award, but it's a nice honor.

Just re-watched Game 6. Hate to go against the grain on this one, but I liked that one better.

Well, this is clearly the Oscar favorite (if he leaves the garbage can to vote for it).

Just a great movie, but I still think Eddie Redmayne takes the Oscar.

Re: Birdman (2014)

I rented this one last night and was pretty let down.

The performances were very good and the shot direction was unique...and I did appreciate the Birdman/Batman/Keaton parallel. But overall, I didn't find the story terribly interesting and spent most of the second half of the film disappointed. It felt like this one was aiming for Oscars as much as telling a compelling story. I don't see too many new films anymore, so maybe I'm just out of touch.

That's pretty close to where I landed.
