Our second matchup is less intrapersonal, and more intrafamilial. Mets fan Peter Parker trades webshots with his British counterpart, launching the Superheroes bracket in the Marvel Conference.

I googled images of her, and I thought, "Well, she'll certainly get Fman's vote."

I'm most familiar with newspaper Spider-Man and his ability for yelling at the television.

For a gal who was introduced more or less to expand the Spider brand, Jessica Drew-- mad scientist father's lab rat; tortured-anti-hero-before-it-was-fashionable; latterday Avenger with personality, intelligence, AND a sex drive-- is actually a pretty damn interesting character. Her Ultimates character-- "I'm a broken thing they made out of Peter Parker"-- similarly so; from what I've seen, she's become an interesting foil/demi-mentor for the Miles Morales Spidey.

But, yeah.

I always thought Spiderman was wimpy. I voted for the girl. SHe looks way cooler, plus it looks like she doesn't mind cleaning ovens.

Spider-Man* was Marvel's best superhero, and had the top three rogues galleries (with Batman and the Flash). I don't know much about Spider-woman, but I doubt she could compete.

*And people now know that there's a hyphen.

yeah, Jessica Drew has an interesting back story. And i'm not that big a spider-man fan, since Todd McFarland screwed him up. But i do like the classic Ditko spidey, and there's no doubt he's the biggest baddest bullet in Marvel's gun.

She was, like, literally made bad-- pops worked with/for the High Evolutionary, and she was first drafted into action as a Hydra operative. (I forget why she quit, but she came over to SHIELD directly from there.)

In my research for this project, I think I read somewheres that Agent Maria Hill turned her.

Don't know about the oven cleaning, but I always thought Spider-man was a whiner.

wasn't she part of Mystique's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants when they "reformed" and went to work for the government around the same time that the X-Men "died"? or has there been more than 1 female in a spider suit?

You're probably thinking of Madame Web, Mystique's psychic buddy.

Gotta be Spidey. There are probably few, if any, cases where I'd vote for the derivative character over the original.

Ben obviously doesn't consider a willingness and facility for cleaning ovens as a factor in his voting. Peter Parker nonetheless takes this matchup 19-2
