No interfamilial spat here, this Round One matchup features two supremely powerful beings, wherein an actual battle between them would probably count all the earth and humanity as collateral damage. Both have their weaknesses, but therein lies the fun. This bracket is the Gold/Silver-Age Superheroes Bracket from the DC/Indie Conference. Signature Lines: "In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power, Green Lantern's light!" Signature Lines: "My name is Captain Atom. As in A-bomb...as in nuclear fission...as in...the end of the world." Powers: Flight, super strength, enhanced invlunerability, ability to project solid constructs from light, enhanced durability, some ability to manipulate reality and time and space and stuff. Powers: He's a fission/fusion machine, constantly absorbing and releasing energy. He has flight and can elease massive energy blasts that I don't wan't to talk about. He can also transmute matter, and thus, sometimes heal cancer. He can see atomic particles and sense radio and cellular waves. He doesn't need to eat or sleep. Weaknesses: He's nothing without his ring. And he has no power over the color yellow. Weaknesses: Absorb too much energy and he has been known to stumble forward in time. He can also lose his molecular integrity, which has got to be a lousy experience.

don't know much about these guys, but Captain Atom feels too WW2/political for me so greenies.

The movie was a little weird but i'll take green lantern here as one of the few DC guys that i could pick out of a lineup!

Captain Atom was another in the long line of comic book lab-experiments-gone-wrong/wonderfully-right. He's a little more like supercharged Captain America than GL. (Also, he's the direct inspiration for Alan Moore's favorite naked blue supermensch/walking MacGuffin.) Give me the willpower-girded, silver-streaked, Coast-City-destroying, dice-rolling, thrice-resurrected (by my count-- it may be off) Harold Jordan, the finest Lantern ever.

hear hear! DC's betrayal of Hal Jordan is a stain on their corporate soul (it that weren't an oxymoron).

I have to admit, though... I really, really enjoyed jerk-extraordinaire-with-a-power-ring Guy Gardner. Plus, I've always had a soft spot for Kilowog.

I know nothing of Captain Atom, and Green Lantern is one of my favorite DC guys, so this was an easy call.
