Re: Snow

Damn global cooling!!

And despite all this happening four days in advance, the Jets/Bills game on Sunday has been thrown into question --- either because of the snow or due to indifference, I'm not quite sure.

They should move the game to new england just so the fans can boo both teams all game

Re: Snow

It's such a weird area of the state, on many levels. There
was like six feet of snow according to some and then not so
much within miles of the snow axis?

Last I heard they were paying people $10/hr to shovel out
the stadium plus free game tickets. Woo-hoo!

Re: Snow

well similar crap happens in Syracuse area and parts of Michigan. depends on the angle of the wind over the lake or some such.

I spent three years in Buffalo and managed to just miss the worst of it, though there were plenty of very very snowy and messy times.

they got like 8 feet, which I think is still the record, over christmas break in..2001 maybe? it was just about all gone by the time Spring semester started.

Then again, Amherst, where the school is, is usually just outside the snow line.

Re: Snow

I read somewhere this past summer that Polar Vortex + global warming = tons of lake effect snow for all of us :)

That feels like mostly people wanting to mention keywords for maximum exposure.

Or $5/hr and no game tickets, your choice.

Apparently Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Washington are under consideration if they can't get the stadium ready in time.

global warming = warm water in the lake.
polar vortex = cold air around the lake
wind blows cold air over the lake, the air warms up and carries with it a ton of evaporated moisture. which slams into the cold air around the lake, and dumps out snow.

the warmer the lake, the more evaporation & moisture taken up by the wind, therefore hte more snow.

Re: Snow

perhaps, but Michigan/NY had a cold winter last winter, and not a particularly warm summer. I highly doubt the lake is anywhere near record highs lately.

I tried to look for Erie Weather and all I got was the forecast.
How badly did they get hit? As bad as Buffalo?

Re: Snow

I'm not sad that Syracuse was spared this one. We had just a dusting of snow this week. Seventy miles north of here they got 4-5 feet of snow.

Re: Snow (Winter 2014-2015)

But I love early snow. It covers up the rest of the leaves before I can rake them making it impossible to walk in the yard because snow on leaves means no traction.

Re: Snow (Winter 2014-2015)

The company has used an 800 number for us to call to check on office closings in bad weather. It has been the same number for over 5 years. I called it this morning. It is now the number for a someone's "personal assistant", and the name is nobody who works at our company. They never told us this wasn't the number any more. So I called my boss and left a message on his voice mail that I won't be in today.

Re: Snow (Winter 2014-2015)

Started here already. I tried to post my favorite weather map but it wouldn't take. It looks like it's a lot further inland than they thought it would be.

Hope it misses Buffalo....

You really should go home and shovel...

Re: Snow (Winter 2014-2015)

It started before 8 AM. I just went out to shovel. Its wet and heavy. And when the temperature drops tonight (its 33 degrees now) it will freeze to the pavement.
And we have the whole family coming for dinner tomorrow.
Yikes!
Can I borrow one of those super heroes to help me shovel?

I would help, but the cold makes my nips pop and then I
lose superhuman strength, speed, agility, and stamina.
