They really pitch Deathlok as mostly bad in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't realize he was a 'hero' so to speak.

Hard to pick against Iron Man though.

went Iron Man as the far more popular/relevant character but he's probably my least favorite of all the well known marvel guys

Deathlok was one of those early Bronze Age books that i got totally hooked on. Rich Buckler's art was super cool and Doug Moench's scripts really captured the tortured soul of a man stuck inside a machine, constantly at war with his 'puter'. A schizo ass-kicker, was old Deathlok. And not for nuttin' (as they say in my old neighborhood) but that's a great name.

Tony Stark was a 2nd generation arms manufacturer and a dick.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Iron Man vs. Deathlok

The '90s Deathlok reboot by Dwayne McDuffie/Greg Wright was even MORE compelling, for my money; it took place in the Marvel Universe here-and-now, Collins was a pacifist scientist who was killed for whistleblowing, only to be damned in the most ironic-cum-terrible way... and the computer/human banter was really funny. Plus, the Guice art was a beaut. This series should have lasted SO much longer.

Well, except... Tony's a pretty compelling dick. I like him almost as a superhero foil, who adds color and texture (not to mention good-old-fashioned fuck-you American know-how) -- the guy in the "office" who's there because he's great at his job, but JESUS, is he tough to take sometimes, and then there's the drinking, and the knocking off early sometimes... and is that even HIM doing his work over there? Christ, can we just get rid of Tony, boss? (The Matt Fraction-penned Iron Man stories of recent vintage are smart, ultramodern, and funny, and make a nice introductory point to someone who's interested in developing an Iron Man interest, but is only familiar with the film.)

You know what? Fuck it, I'm going underdog.

Deathlok sounds like the name of an 80s Metal band.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Iron Man vs. Deathlok

I remember when Deathlok was introduced. I seem to think that Marvel was looking for the next big thing at that point in the 70's. (Before they realized that the next big thing would be the revival of the X-Men.) I never read Deathlok; don't know why, but all I know about him is what I've seen on the S.H.I.E.L.D. television series, which I realize isn't much to go by.

I have to vote for Iron Man, because Tony Stark makes me feel that he's a cool exec with a heart of steel.

I like that Iron man was able to do what so few baseball teams can do --- put together a good looking kit without a blood-and-blue palette. He works only with brick-and-gold and he looks resplendent.

This intra-S.H.I.E.L.D. matchup goes down exactly as you thought it would --- with Tony Stark paying off the judges.
