Presented this year by Carol Miller!

Predict the top 10 songs in this year's Q1043 countdown, in order. One point for every song in the top 10, and 3 bonus points for every song in its proper slot in the top 10. The end. DO IT NOW!!!!!!

Not to be snarky, but I couldn't name ten songs from this entire year. But have fun everyone :)

Re: Klassik Rawk World Championship: 2014!!!

No no no! Not predictions of songs from this year, but from supposed votes of listeners of "Klassik rawk" station Q104.3.

Like this:
1. Stairway to Heaven
2. A Day in the Life
3. Satisfaction
4. Won't Get Fooled Again
5. Born to Run
6. Bohemian Rhapsody
7. Hey Jude
8. Layla
9. Baba O'Reilly
10. Sympathy for the Devil

Re: Carol Miller Presents: Klassik Rawk World Championship '

1. Foreplay/Longtime
2. Layla
3. Kasmir
4. I Can't Get No Satisfaction
5. American Pie
6. Jungleland
7. Money (Pink Floyd)
8. Do You Feel Like We Do? (Frampton)
9. Life In The Fast Lane
10. Smoke On The Water

Those are some of my favorites, loosely in order and subject to change as I recall additional songs. I do remember that I could never get enough of Foreplay/Longtime when Boston debuted. I when I saw them that tour, I was amazed that they could pull off those songs live on stage. Boston was magnificent.

So my list is more a personal one as opposed to a popular list.

For the tie-breaker you can use the number of surgeries Carole Miller went through between her WNEW heyday and that picture.

Do you think these countdowns are rigged? I mean, come on, Stairway to Heaven? Unanimously the #1 song? In perpetuity? Through every generation? And the thing is, people don't generally ever agree on anything. I mean, you couldn't get three people to agree on their favorite local pizza even if they all came from some tiny town where there was only one pizzeria to choose from. They'd still find a way to disagree. And I've never met anyone who regards Stairway as their favorite Zep song, let alone their all-time favorite.

Yeah, part of the challenge of the Classic RAWK World Championship is to correctly read shifts, as Edgy has smartly done with his DSB pick (even if that climb is probably too dramatic).

Maybe next year we pull a Billy Wynne and try to rig the Top 1043 with a few viral wildcard nominees.

My all time favorite song

Phew!

You could do far worse than "Hello" as a favorite song or track. Nice choice. It only made the Q104.3 countdown once, reaching #857, in 2012. Fools.

According to their search engine, other Rundgren charters:
"Bang on the Drum All Day"
#911 in 2006
#803 in 2007
#701 in 2008
#615 in 2011
#857 in 2012
#857 in 2013

"I Saw The Light":
#940 in 2008
#767 in 2011
#962 in 2012
#714 in 2013

Seeing as how both "Bonjour, C'est Moi" and "Bang on the Drum All Day" are listed as #857 in 2012, and "I Saw the Light" returned to the exact same position in 2013, I'm going to rule that their search engine is a search engine of lies.

Most of our contestants were tripped up by the absence of the Stones and the Who from the top 10! In a shocker, 'Satisfaction' slumped to #22 and 'Sympathy' to #26, while Baba O'Reilly finished #13 and 'Won't Get Fooled Again' #21. Top 50 here.

I was thinking the same thing. But there are still a few head scratchers: "Rock with You" over any number of selections from Thriller? "Big Girls Don't Cry" over "Who Loves You?" "Night Fever" over "Stayin' Alive" or even "Jive Talkin'"?

And if it's the wedding DJ go-to countdown, where is "Play That Funky Music, White Boy"? Where is "Love Shack"? Surely, the absence of "Sweet Caroline" is an accident!

This calls for more research! What are you up to, latter day CBS? What is your game?!

Re: Carol Miller Presents: Klassik Rawk World Championship '

Modern-day CBS seems to have inherited a chunk of the "Klassik Rawk" that was once the sweet spot of Q104.3s progenitors, but that it doesn't have the room for since it had to add various hair metal, Guns n' Roses, Pearl Jam, Black Crowes, etc., all since first going "classic" in the late 80s. These are primarily 60s and 70s acts. CBS in the meantime has all but eliminated pre-Beatles selections.

For example, one song I hear all the time on CBS these days and never on the Q anymore is "All Right Now" by Free. CBS of course plays a version that cuts out all the lengthy instrumental breaks.

Fucking Eagles probably have the best combined score.

This is worth investigating. I blame the consolidation of radio, but that would make more sense if these were both Clear Channel stations or both I<3Radio stations, but WCBS-FM is still owned by CBS media, I think.

I was going to comment that it looked like the top 20 of drunken wedding guests.

That's about the size of it!
