The Silver Age X-Mutants Bracket of the Marvel Conference is not a pretty place to be right now. Backstabbing all over the place. Dig these two.

Song I Think Of:"Hide Behind My Glasses"Song I Think Of:"Ice Man"
Powers:He shoots powerful optic blasts from his eyes. Very dangerous. He's trained to lead and is gifted in strategic thinking. He's a trained pilot. He's immune to his brother Havok's energy blasts.Powers:He basically turns moisture in the air into ice in the shape of his choosing, blunt or sharp. He can freeze somebody's joints, and unless they're strong enough to break some serious ice, they're just stuck there. Plus he can blast you with ice: a big ball of it or a thousand little knives. Can basically surf around above the ground by spontaneously building ice bridges in front of himself. He is pretty well armored by pretty much turning his flesh to ice.
Weaknesses:He can't control his optic blasts, and has to wear a ruby quartz visor or ruby sunglasses to suppress them. Usually, he has shot his blasts by raising his hand to his visor and briefly releasing the protective shield with a built-in switch. So if you don't want to get burned, restrain his hands. Also, he's a normal human male with regard to absorbing damage.Weaknesses:Fire melts ice, so if you've got a fire power or lightning power, use it. Also, if you cut down or blow up one of his stupid ice bridges while he's on it, he'll fall and possibly be hurt. It's good to have a handful of flying teammates to catch him, but they can't always be there for him.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Cyclops vs. Iceman

Cyclops is the clear winner here, he was the leader of the X-Men and then X-Force and then the X-Men again.... Iceman was just another guy to me and I'm a big X-Men fan. Sure Cyclops was a bit of a downer sometimes, but he had character that a lot of the other stereotype superheroes didnt!

Meant to add - great Cyclops article from Grantland awhile back... [url]http://grantland.com/hollywood-prospectus/difficult-x-men-a-defense-of-cyclops/

Oh, and the X-Factor ship was sentient and should be in the bracket :)

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Cyclops vs. Iceman

"Difficult," indeed-- he's essentially become a slightly-less-aggressive Magneto in recent years... and just before that, under the influence of Phoenix-Force, he actually murdered Professor Xavier.

Bad acts set aside, Slim's gotten a lot more interesting since he's gone dark, I'll tell you... and, yeah, though I'd probably rather be stuck in an elevator with Bobby, Mopey One-Eye wipes the floor with the amiable frost pile, power- and character-wise.

I'm taking Iceman. Because he talked shit to Tom Cruise in that movie about the gay fighter pilots.

Wait, what?

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Cyclops vs. Iceman

I can't say I've ever found either of these characters to be especially interesting, but Cyclops definitely tops Iceman, if for no other reason than that he was a member of the original X-Men and the revived title. I wasn't aware that Cyclops had "gone dark", but I bailed on the X-Men about thirty years ago; they went from being one of my favorite titles to virtually unreadable some time around issue 190. I never went back.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Cyclops vs. Iceman

I've had loads of downtime of late, given a funky work schedule; I've been hitting the library almost daily, and doing a ton of comics-catch-up to leaven the heavier fare (stuff about early-onset dementia, or how-you're-getting-screwed nonfiction exposes, e.g.) into which I've recently sunk my brain-teeth.

A lot of the new superhero fare-- Matt Fraction's Iron Man/Iron Fist/Hawkeye, Jonathan Hickman's Fantastic Four/"Future Foundation," Ed Brubaker's epic Captain America and Daredevil-- is quite palatable and refreshing and rivals the heroes' previous bests; this includes the X-Men stuff-- and Ultimate Spider-Man, and anything, really-- done by Brian Michael Bendis, to which I'm referring above re: Cyke.

Really, though, guys... Iceman?

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Cyclops vs. Iceman

i'm not a big fan of either of these guys. Cyclops was always the wrong end of a romantic triangle and a good leutenant, without any inherently interesting characterization. I even liked his brother more. But I'm not familiar with his "gone bad" version, so maybe that's made him more interesting.

Bobby? He's a sweet kid, but really nothing special. I liked him better in the movies than i ever did in the comics.

My vote goes to Scott, purely on the basis of his greater importance to the Marvelverse.

Left Eye knocks Vanilla Ice off the charts.
