Re: 2014 top ten lists

I don't think I've seen 10 movies this year. all time low for me probably.

I saw Divergent (botched) and MockingJay part 1 (was good)

Just scrolled through the top 200 most popular 2014 movies on IMDB and yeah, only those two. Haven't even seen any others by other means. Which means I haven't seen a film from this year that I didn't already know the story. Embarrassing showing.

Re: 2014 top ten lists

I'm certain I didn't see ten movies in theaters this year. Those I did see were: Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America, X-Men, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Lucy, and Gone With the Wind. There might be one or two others, but I really think that's it.

Re: 2014 top ten lists

My 2014 releases (so far only 9 but I'm sure I'll get around to more), clumped in groups of relative goodness and ranked within those groups (the bottom three would not make any top ten list but could make bottom ten lists):

Boyhood
Birdman
Ida

Top Five
Grand Budapest Hotel
A Most Wanted Man

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Faded Gigolo
The One I Love

Re: 2014 top ten lists

It's listed as a February 2014 release in the US on the list I saw.

How does the Academy judge US films with earlier foreign releases?

Re: 2014 top ten lists

I figured it was older since I saw it on a plane in April.

So, therefore, I will put as the #5 movie of my now top ten.

HA! You suck!

I saw four. (And a handful in other ways, by year's end.)

Guardians of the Galaxy
LEGO Movie
Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier
Grand Budapest Hotel
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Veronica Mars
Divergent

None were terrible, though.

Re: 2014 top ten lists

Going off the ones on Vic's list, I've seen: THE OBVIOUS CHILD and GONE GIRL. There may have been others but, if so, I can't think of them at the moment.
Now I just have to decide which order to place them in.

on edit: also saw ABOUT LAST NIGHT and MONUMENTS MEN
those two are definitely #s 3 and 4 on the list.

Re: 2014 top ten lists

I didn't see 10 films in the movies this year, but of what I saw, The Theory Of Everything was easily the best, and Eddie Redmayne should win every single best actor award this award season.

Guardians of the Galaxy - Easily the best Marvel movie since Avengers.
LEGO Movie - Everything is Awesome! just a fun ride
Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier - Holy migraines! A really good script was destroyed by too much shaky cam that had me diving for the Dramamine....

I saw Boyhood over the weekend. Great ambition, some good performances, but ultimately kind of a bore.

Agreed - almost three hours and felt longer.

I know they invested twelve years into the project, but it would have been better if they parted with some of the footage in order to move along the plot a bit more efficiently.

I dunno, I liked it a lot. They were lucky that the kid turned out to be as good as he was. Saw it when it came out and moments from that movie occur to me regularly.

You mean as an actor? Yes. I just wonder if they couldn't have written something more interesting for him to act out.

That said I also agree with the "moments" thing, many of those hit close to home too but just not a dramatic success overall I'd say.
