Memories of John Lannan

John Lannan has signed a minor league deal to become a Colorado Something. You may find this hard to believe, but he pitched five games for the 2014 Mets. Photo evidence confirms this.

I dare you to provide an authentic John Lannan memory.

Wore a beard.

Pitched in daytime, in home pinstripes, at least once.

Wow. Five authentic memories. lol-ing.

After Edgin got farmed out at the end of camp, he was in line to become the elusive "second lefty," behind Rice. He got rocked in four of his five appearances, and Edgin started looking a lot better, surpassing our man Lannan, and then Rice. Eveland stepped up and became lefty number two. And it was a long season minor-leaguing and rehabbing for Long Beach's own. He also missed a good chunk of the summer due to a "personal matter" --- the nature of which I'm not sure ever came to light.

Edgin. He really came out of nowhere, didn't he? I think he was the first guy cut in spring.

Lannan is destined to be conflated with Mike O'Connor for me, forever.

It wasn't quite out of nowhere (not in the sense of Eveland and Dario, anyhow), but good memory on the cutski!

Authentically terrible in Opening Day loss. I tried to get excited that somebody with whom I share a hometown was pitching for my team, but generated little genuine enthusiasm here.

We saw him in a early spring training game; nothing since then was memorable.

I remember he had terrible taste in rooting interests growing up.

Lannan couldn't keep the ball on this side of the East River, much less in the park.

I remember Edgin was recovering from an injury and really didn't look good at all this past spring, and then didn't look good his first month at Vegas either. But at some point he really turned a corner.

It's funny, because Lannan was supposedly signed by Colorado a month back, but it appears to have become official only this week.

Not a big delay. I'm guessing it took longer for some of the homers he gave up to land.
