I'm curious to see if any other MLB teams have one. I assume it's about teaching adult children how to at least pretend to be a grown-up. Here's how Long Beach State describes the job.

"Guys you know most of the staff here, and we're excited for a great season. One guy you might not know, though some of you played with him a few years back, is Coach Ankiel. Rick's going to be the life skills coordinator." "Hey, coach. Hey. 'Sup, coach." "It's good to be back with the Nats, guys. I know some people think of this position as a sort of 'glorified babysitter' deal. But I want you to know that's not what I'm about. I think you'll learn that I know what you're dealing with because I too have drunk from the lake of fire... ." "Rick?" "I have ridden the red dragon into the city of endless night while the very bricks of the towers screamed. I have danced with the wolves of pestilence to a song played by an orchestra of demons. I have LOOSED THE CHAINS OF THE MINOTAUR WHILE THE FOOLISH BOURGEOISIE IN THEIR SILLY HOUSES CRIED 'NO!!'" "RICK!!" "Looking forward to a great year, guys."

Maybe the Mets should have had a life skills coordinator when Doc and Darryl were young.

"So, summing up, buddy, you generally need a card to use a cash machine; you can't just walk up to it and smirk, and it probably won't respond when you hit it with 'Do you know who I am?'"

Glendon Rusch will be coaching Padre minor leaguers in 2015. And Charlie O'Brien will be overstating his impact on the game in a new book.
As baseball book maven Ron Kaplan notes, O'Brien wasn't necessarily the catcher for these pitchers when they won the CYA, and the total includes a guy he caught in Spring Training but never in a game (Pete Vukovich three years before Charlie was in the bigs). I recall C.O'B. as fairly taciturn and personality-free, but maybe he was saving it all for his memoir.
