Arbies

Mets looking to keep their longtime (20-year?) record of avoiding arbitration hearings intact, and they sign Bobby Parnell for something like what he got (for nutting') last year.

Actually, I'm slightly worried he won't have anything to give them this year either.

Other dudes who went into the offseason arbitration eligible and still remain on the roster: Murphy, Duda, Mejia, Gee, Recker. Have they settled with any of those?

Re: Arbies

I haven't heard about any of the others yet, but I think they still have a fair amount of time to settle them.

As for Parnell, I think "slightly worried" is about right. There are never any guarantees, but he looks set to return before the halfway point and it's a fair investment if he does.

Re: Arbies

If he returns with any degree of usefulness.

He was never consistent in getting the offspeed pitches over. If his fastball is meaningfully diminished, he'll be just another guy.

well, consistent enough. really only 2011 was a bad control year. 3+ K/BB rates from 2010-2013 with very good results. And variable fastball rates. In fact, 2011 was the year he threw the hardest. He's probably got a little diminished velocity cushion in him, though the long layoff could be problematic.

They went to an arbitration hearing (and lost) with Oliver Perez prior to the 2008 season.

Re: Arbies

How about that? Good call!

He turned around and led the league in walks.

Re: Arbies

Jenrry Mejia, Dillon Gee, Daniel Murphy, Lucas Duda and Ruben Tejada joined 170+ MLers by jumping on the Arby-filing train as it left the station yesterday.

Parnell, who was eligible, pre-settled at $3.7 - the same salary he made in 2014

Re: Arbies

And, to answer a question that MEX17 posed last June in an attempt to help gauge 2015 payroll, Adam Rubin predicts the final salary numbers for NYM arg-eligible players

So back in June Mex asked about:
-Murphy -- AR sez $8.1
-Gee -- $5 mil, but it sounds like he'll be off the team before that figure ever gets decided
-Parnell -- $3.7
-E. Young -- $0.00 as far as the Mets are concerned
-Duda -- $4.25
-Tejada -- $1.7

and Mex didn't ask about Mejia but Rubin predicts $2.5

Some would say that Tejada & Gee just settled with the Mets.
Others would argue that the Mets are settling for Tejada & Gee.

Re: Arbies

I like to think they're settling for each other.

Re: Arbies

Duda and the Mets agree to a $4.2 million salary and a 4.2-inch beard length.

Payroll now over $100 million.
