Supernatural Powers:Hears, smells, tastes, and feels with superlative sensitivity and accuracy. Senses his environment through some kind of sonar/radar/echolation ability arising from his super-senses. He can read by touching a page. He recognizes someone he knows by his distinctive smell and heartbeat, so your secret identity is not so secret, mask or no mask. He knows if you're lying, too, kid, so he's sort of a superpowered interrogator.Supernatural Powers:He can psychically link up to birds. This doesn't just give him control to summon them for a fight, but he can, like, see through their eyes when he concentrates. Got a missing kid in New York City? This guy can search the town in minutes. He's got a solar powered flight harness that is controlled cybernetically and allows him to fly fast, far, and skillfully in close quarters. It also has a talon that allows for grappling and a thrust capablity for sweet takoffs and soft landings.
Non-Super Abilities:DD's a master of many martial arts, using his non-visual senses to detect his enemy's moves. He's an ace gymnist/rope swinger, with a billy club that turns into a weapon or a swinging cable as needed. Also, you need a fancy pants criminal lawyer? DD knows his stuff.Non-Super Abilities:Dude can fight. He's tough and courageous and loyal and emotional and as sweet as his suit is, it takes a skilled arialist like himself to operate it. He can train birds, he's a good acrobat, and his hand-to-hand training is under the tutelage of Captain 'Merica himself.
Weaknesses:He's blind. Beyond that, supersenses can be a weakness, and he can be overcome or disoriented by very strong sounds and smells. Does DD have you cornered? Well, perhaps you might want to fart your way out of trouble. It's worth a try.Weaknesses:His suit can deflect small arms fire, but a big gun can take him down. As his flying ability is all in the harness, what you want to do is take one of those wings out of commission and let gravity do the job for you. He's a man. He will go down hard like a ton of bricks.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Daredevi vs. Falcon

Daredevil was right up there for me, along with the FF and Dr. Strange. It was this issue that did it for me:

This was the issue when he went from that dreadful yellow "WWF wrestler"-type outfit to the classic red. But more importantly, it was the issue that solidified Matt Murdock's character.

Matt's was a hardscrabble life growing up in Hell's Kitchen, raised by a single dad (a boxer). And then he was blinded by a car accident, saving an old man from a truck filled with chemical waste that would end up giving him his powers in classic "spider-man" style. His senses heightened, with a radar sense compensating for his lost sight, he became a street-level vigilante, righting wrongs with his fists at night, and with the law by day, with his law partner Foggy Nelson. He was a man without fear, because fear could never look him in the eye. And he wasn't trying to save the galaxy, or the world, just his little corner of it.

So, in issue #7, when Namor the Sub-mariner emerges from the Hudson to destroy NYC (over some forgotten incident), DD stands up to him and goes toe-to-toe. Despite his athleticism and sensory powers, he's no match for Namor, who proceeds to beat the crap out of him. But Matt never stops trying to get up; beaten to the ground, he rises again and again, until he loses consciousness. Out of respect for DD's courage, Namor returns to the sea.

Sam Wilson is a sidekick.

Next.

plus, Matt had some pretty ladies:

This one's really no contest. Falcon is a nice character, but there have been so many great Daredevil stories over so many years. I hope nobody judges the character by that disappointing 2003 movie with Ben Affleck, and I'm looking forward to next year's series on Netflix -- I hope they do justice to Daredevil this time around.

Also, by the way, Daredevil played an important guest role in my all-time favorite comic book issue, Fantastic Four #40.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Daredevi vs. Falcon

I just have trouble figuring out how DD works.

He can hear the Hulk's heartbeat from several blocks away. How does a guy who hears that much noise and smell that much shit survive and not go mad in New York or any other city, or town, or bus depot?

Superman has the same issues. He has to learn to focus, to block out the extraneous noises. Much like we do when having a conversation in a crowded and noisy cafeteria.

Based in 'Frisco? A superhero has to be tough. Gotta go with my Homie.

Daredevil may be currently in San Francisco, but he's from Hell's Kitchen. Few are tougher than Daredevil.

I'm voting for the guy that can still see titties.

I have to remind myself that this thing isn't the least bit important.

just sing the last stanza of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY over and over again in your head, like a mantra. It will calm you.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Daredevi vs. Falcon

Vic's nailed it, as usual-- DD's a heroic man-in-full, while Sam Wilson is a great sidekick (who just got the Cap promotion, btw, but still).

Some nice, operatic recent-ish Daredevil: Ed Brubaker's run and Brian Michael Bendis' End of Days. (Spoiler alert: somebody dies!)

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Daredevil vs. Falcon

Read it a while back, so it's a bit fuzzy... a little outre, a little talky, and a little deus-ex-machina with how it wraps up, but an interesting development of some of the Frank Miller plot threads. Worth a look, if you've got the time (if not a world-changer).
