Song I Think Of:"Runnin' with the Devil"Song I Think Of:"The Ghost in You"
Supernatural Powers:His primary ability had been teleportation, but that power has waxed and waned through the years. He's used that to appear in midst of a fight behind enemy lines (and backs). This allows his secondary super-powers to be of use: He's a wiry little fighter, with superhuman agility, a cool devlish prehensile tail, the ability to stick to walls, and tough, hard skin. He blends into shadows, and has enhanced night vision, making him a tough foe at night. Despite having but three digits on each limb, he's super dextrous, and can handle objects with his feet and even juggle them. He can ball his feet into a fist.Supernatural Powers:Kitty passes, ghostlike, through solid objects. She creates a field when she does this "phasing," so her clothes, objects she carries, and people she holds can phase with her. She disrupts currents in the things she passes through, so she can shut down machinery when she passes through it, or knock out organic beings. While phasing, she can't exactly fly, but she can float.
Non-Super Abilities:Dude is also a skilled hand-to-hand fighter, with fencing ability. Leads all X-Men in theological training, and his failing teleportation abilities have led him to develop more leadership abilities.Non-Super Abilities:Kitty, even in her teen years, was something of a wunderkind with regard to computers and applied science. TED talk type stuff. She's a skiled pilot, and a talented hand-to-hand combatant, endowed of late with a lifetime of training in Japanese and Israeli martial arts. She's a talented dancer (both ballet and modern, and a polished polygot, speaking English, Japanese, Russian, and the alien Shi'ar and Skrull tongues. She has moderate fluency in Gaelic, Hebrew, and German, making her a pretty popular teammate for her international team of X-Men.
Weaknesses:His teleporting tires him out. One big jump or a few small ones leave him sapped, and he can't do it again that day. He's also made of flesh, if particularly hard flesh. His parents are both villians, and that's hard on a guy.Weaknesses:Eventually, her intangibility became her natural default state, and rather than focus to achieve it, she had to focus to remain solid. Being a living ghost can lead to existential angst, and that's never a healthy thing for a superhero. She also can't breathe when passing through solid matter, and like a swimmer, she has to hold her breath and occasionally surface for gulps of air. While she has found ways to make her abilities offensive (like threatening to phase enemies and have them rematerialize inside of a wall), they are largely defensive in nature.

i have no strong feelings about either of these Bronze-age X-folk, but Alan Cumming was better than Ellen Page, so the crawler it is.

i don't anticipate FMan having much interest in a girl whose naughty bits can't be touched.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Nightcrawler vs. Shadowcat

I think they're both about equally interesting, but Nightcrawler's BAMF ability is pretty cool, so I voted for him.

I'm basing my vote on where Nightcrawler and Kitty were about 30 years ago; I have no idea what they've been doing over the last few decades.

In the wake of Cyclops going Magneto, even in a sea of alpha-types (Wolverine, Storm, et. al.), Kitty Pryde's become the leader of the X-team/Xavier's Jean Grey school. So, yeah, she's done some things.

Her character introduction heralded the Dark Phoenix Saga, and she's the beating heart of Days of Future Past AND most of Byrne/Claremont "Golden Era" X-dom. Additionally, they've done countless interesting things with her of late, from saving the planet from giant intergalactic bullets to alien-pregnancy scares; suffice it to say her character-vein has proven a lot more rewarding than Kurt's. (Who, bless his heart, is far more interesting as moral minor voice in a compelling storyline than as the center of one.) Like a rounded Chardonnay, she pairs surprisingly well-- interacting/relating with her has brought out new depth and emotional shading in overexposed/underused major X-players from Wolverine to Magneto.

And while Nightcrawler's teleportation/acrobat thing was always kinda cool, Kitty can, like, kill Sentinels. Advantage, Intangible Girl.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Nightcrawler vs. Shadowcat

I had heard of Nightcrawler and he was going to autoget my vote, but I read the two entrees and found Shadowcat much more interesting. I like how her power got reversed and the little details like she can't breath while going through stuff.

I thought I knew a lot about comics but you guyz are putting me to shame.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Nightcrawler vs. Shadowcat

I like both these guys. They both have moral gravity. They both have existential issues. They're both people who put in a lot of thought before speaking up and everybody else in the room stops talking. The also make great teammates and worked well together in Excalibur as foils for the far more powerful but boneheaded Captain Britain.

I liked playing Nightcrawler in the coin-op video game in the nineties. I liked the way he planted his hands and kicked with his feet.

Voted for Kitty, though. Nice seeing her go from the team goofball/little sister to the cool-headed steely leader.

I'd scoop Shadowcat's litter box.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Nightcrawler vs. Shadowcat

I'm going with Shadowcat, but I really hate to see Nightcrawler going out so early. I'd like to replace the whole list of "independent" books that only Vic read with X-Men castoffs!
