Neither of these dudes has powers, per se, but they're a pair of dudes whose crosshairs you don't want to be in.

What is their range? We may never know.

How He Came to Be:Frank studied for the priesthood, but instead enrolled in the miltary and learned to kill and kill well. When he got home, his family witnessed a mob killiing, and the mob made a point to kill all the witnesses. But they didn't finish off Frank. This made him angry. How He Came to Be:Ran away to join the circus, and the performers there trained him to be a master archer. Then the carnies turned on him and beat the hell out of him. Carnies, amirite? Anyhow, he found his way to the Black Widow, and the rest be history.
Base of Operations:Mobile, usually New York, NYBase of Operations:Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, NY; formerly (breathe) Stark Tower, New York, NY; Avengers Compound, Los Angeles, CA; Lighthouse, Earth Orbit; Avengers Mansion, Central Park, New York, Ny; Captain America's safe house, Brooklyn, NY; "Avengers Apartment", New York, NY; Stephen Strange's Mansion, Greenwich Village, New York, NY; Mount Charteris, CO (phew)

Sidekick(s):Microchip (his tech provider)Sidekick(s):Many partnerships, but usually on an equal footing. Young Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) is something of a protégé, but she goes her own way soon enough.
Paramour(s):Maria CastleParamourMockingbird/Bobbi Morse, Moonstone/Karla Sofen, The Wasp/Janet van Dyne
Has Been Played By:Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane, Ray StevensonOnce Played By:Jeremy Renner
Could Have Been Played By:Frank StalloneCould Have Been Played By:Tom Cruise
Song I Think Of:"Night Prowler"Song I Think Of:"Shoot That Poison Arrow"
Supernatural Powers:NoneSupernatural Powers:Generally none. Briefly used the Pym particles and became Goliath, which is really a stupid name to go by, if you think about it.
Non-Super Abilities:Expert-level miltary training in all ways to kill: marksmanship, guerilla warfare, munitions, stealth, hand-to hand combat. He's in peak condition, and can tolerate pain. Hell, he uses pain.Non-Super Abilities:Peak human condition. If not the best marksman and archer in the world, certainly in the family picture. Also an outstanding fencer and acrobat, because he was trained in a traveling circus, and you know those guys know everything. He's strong enough that he keeps his bow strung tight enough that it requires 250 pounds-force to draw it back. You'd figure that would keep him from shooting in rapid succession, but he's that bad a badass. He's learned hand-to-hand combat, tactics, and leadership at the foot of Captain F. America, so he's not screwing around. He's got a bunch of trick arrows, is deft in the use of a katana, and pretty much any item on your coffee table is a deadly weapon in his hands. Flies around on a hovering snowmobile.
Weaknesses:He's a human and therefore vulnerable to all human vulnerabilities, be it a common cold or hot lead.Weaknesses:He's a guy with no superhuman offensive or defensive powers who shoots arrows instead of bullets. If you've got to take a chance against an Avenger, he may be a good choice, ass-bad though he may be. He's gone mostly deaf from injuries sustained at the hands of sicko villains, and was losing his eyesight for a while there also, but the latter appears to have been restored.

Tom Cruise as Hawkeye? I don't see it...

Anyway, I never cared for the Punisher, and Hawkeye is kinda cool so he definitely gets my vote.

He's got big arms and an intense brow. I don't know. It's hard.

I went for Hawk, much has I hate masks with wings on 'em (looking at you, too, here, Wolverine). Guys with big guns aren't super. They're just guys with big guns. Even if you don't have super powers, at least give me a skill set that transcends the gun barrel.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Punisher vs. Hawkeye

To a lot of my comix-buying friends in the early-'90s, the Punisher was Mr. Bad-Ass Sanction, the righteous guy who didn't take shit from nobody, the Kevlar-wrapped tits. To me, Castle's brand of psychopath was always nasty, all-too-real, and-- above all-- dull. Even at my most young-dumb-and-full-of-shoot-shit-up-iness, I didn't really get the appeal. And the name doesn't help-- he sounds like the employee at the fetish-brothel that doesn't get much business.

You just know Hawkeye's the one Avenger who, like, showers at the Avengers Mansion gym, y'know? But yeah, here's to the archer, and his fantastic new series (like LaCarre mixed with Elmore Leonard mixed with Michel Gondry weirdness, with pictures... courtesy of Matt Fraction).

My daughter is a huge Hawkeye fan. He's the unappreciated Avenger. It's not that easy to find Hawkeye merchandise -- it's usually the Big Four -- Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America. But we have found some cool stuff.

That said, the purple Hawkeye doesn't exist in our world. We only acknowledge the Jeremy Renner version.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Punisher vs. Hawkeye

Jeremy Renner should totally wear the purple cowl with the big H on it.

Fun fact: the reason Hawkeye wears purple is because he was originally a bad guy. Good guys wear red, blue, and yellow and bad guys wear orange, purple, and green.

I don't know how this convention came about, but it's one that's been followed by both Marvel and DC.

Notice how Punisher and Hawkeye are both very angry at the ground.

This was one of the weirdest crossovers ever:

A trip to Riverdale pays off... not!

Hawkeye takes down the Punisher.
