Supernatural Powers:Initially just stronger and more durable than humans due to being a Kree. Eventually gained universal teleporting capabilities, as well as illusion projection capacity. This was lost, but then he became a solar conductor which gave him great strength and the ability to fly. This has something to do with his "nega-bands." He has also gained "cosmic awareness" which, like, detects trouble anywhere.Supernatural Powers:Currently, she's got a pretty good standard superpackage of superhuman strenth, endurance, stamina, and durability, with flight up to Mach 6. (Go, Carol!) She has a little precog ability, and (here's where the action is) she absorbs energy and shoots it out her fingertips. She gets stronger as she absorbs more, so watch what you throw at her, as it gets consumed and shot right back.
Non-Super Abilities:He's a master of unarmed combat and has encyclopedic knowledge of the Kree.Non-Super Abilities:She's a well-trained spy, markswoman, and hand-to-hand fighter.
Weaknesses:He kicks everybody's asses, but he needs those bands. Plus, he was created just to secure a copyright, which is sort of working backwards.Weaknesses:She can't absorb magical energy. She's vulnerable to magic. She also doesn't have a constant source of power, so if she unloads too much, she gets drained and needs to recharge.

I loved Carol inside Rogue's head in the 80's X-Men, occasionally taking control after the trip to Genosha

Carol Danvers is an interesting character, and I'm really glad she's getting her own movie, but I had to vote for the big guy.

I don't know, man. Powers and backstory aren't dissimilar, so... character/story it is. "The Death of Captain Marvel" is great, and compelling. But Mar-Vell's just a little before my time... so maybe that's why he leaves me just a little cold. Meanwhile, I've always enjoyed Carol Danvers, from the Ms. Marvel I've read to the little-voice-in-Rogue's-head dynamic to her more recent adventures-- rebel New Avenger during Civil War, and swashbuckling, conflicted and hilarious space adventurer (very much worth reading). Maybe this matchup would be different ten, or even five years ago-- as it stands, she's cresting, and he's still long-gone-- but, well... at this moment, gimme Girl Power.

While I voted for him, it wouldn't at all be a travesty if she ended up winning; she's a strong candidate. (That is, as long as we're talking about Carol Danvers. Sharon Ventura is a whole other story, and she really shouldn't be bundled in with Carol.)

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) vs. Ms. Marve

From his silver age SF roots, to his bronze age cosmic reboot by Jim Starlin, to his iconic name, to his emotional death from which he never returned, Mar-vell has been a landmark character in the MarvelVerse. Ms. Marvel was a 2nd tier spinoff during the years i was paying attention. So I'm going against the hotness factor here.

There is only one Captain Marvel for me and this ain't him.

Yeah, but he was a second-tier silver-age hero (and that's being generous), wasn't he? And the name, well, the name-before-the-character bit kinda cancels that bit out. So, really, you're left with his powers, a handful of memorable Avengers-related adventures, and his (landmark) death. For my money, this is a past against present-and-future matchup, and the non-comic-book-death death factor, strong though it is, isn't quite enough to cancel out Ms. Danvers' growing advantages in the other areas.

Yeah, being a character created to beat other publishers in a race to secure another publisher's expired copyright trumps being a derivative character, in the great scale of misbegotten-ness, I think.

The downside of Carol being consumed by Rogue is that it made Rogue less interesting as a hero (if perhaps more interesting as a character). Instead of wondering whose powers she would steal for the next engagement, she mostly defaulted to Carol's powers.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) vs. Ms. Marve

In the mid-70s, the young Brit writer-artist Jim Starlin was given the 2nd tier Captain Marvel and, for 1 year, he wrote and drew a story arc that offered the first great Thanos narrative and laid the groundwork for the entire niche of Marvel's "cosmic comics" in the 1970s -- trippy, philosophical musings on god and death that carried on in Silver Surfer, Warlock, Guardians of the Galaxy, and their related titles. That run was groundbreaking, and its echoes are still reverberating today (particularly in the "cosmic cube" saga now playing out in the Avengers movies and the hugely successful Guardians movie).

Having recreated Captain Marvel in his own image, Starlin then launched the "Graphic Novel" format for Marvel with his landmark "Death of Captain Marvel" which is one of the single greatest comic books ever written. The impact of it was so significant that Marvel took the unusual step of leaving Mar-Vell permanently dead so as to not undermine this seminal work.

Whatever Carol Danvers has accomplished in recent years, i seriously doubt she has climbed any comparable mountain.

yeah, but there are enough interesting powers. Rogue was at her best as the conflicted hero, awash with guilt over her former criminal life...but mostly over what she had done to the woman who was still inside her head

As has been the pattern in male/female match-ups thus far, the female combatant walks away with the trophy, 9-4

What a bunch of supporters for female empowerment you all are.
