I thought we had already done Wildcat before, but he had only previously appeared as a paramour. He appears here in the Non-Powered Heroes Bracket of the DC/Indy conference going up against a rare representative from the Watchmen.

Name:RorschachName:Wildcat
AKA:Walter Joseph KovacsAKA:Theadore "Ted" Grant
Creator(s):Alan Moore, Dave GibbonsCreator(s):Bill Finger, Irwin Hasen
Place of Birth:UnknownPlace of Birth:Gotham City, NJ
How He Came to Be:Working on the fringes of the garment industry following a traumatic childhood, young Walter was sent to deliver a dress to a young woman with an Italian name. She rejected the test, but he hung on to it, interested in the material, which spontaneously generated different designs of black blots on a white background. Years later, he heard about the murder of Kitty Geneovese, who he believed to be the woman who rejected the dress, and he took the dress fabric as a mask, as he set out to avenge himself upon evildoers like those who raped and killed Genovese. How He Came to Be:A disgraced former prizefighter, he one day met a kid upset because a bully had stolen his Green Lantern comic. Inspired by the kid's description of Green Lantern, he became a costumed crimefighter. He eventually gained powers through the curses of enemies and the blessings of friends.
Base of Operations:New York, NYBase of Operations:Battery Park, New York, NY
Teams:CrimebustersTeams:Justice Society of America, Suicide Squad, All-Star Squadron
Signature Lines:"This city is afraid of me...I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper "No." "Signature Lines:"Fists are nature's problem solvers."
Arch-Enemy:Big FigureArch-Enemy:The Yellow Wasp
Sidekick(s):None.Sidekick(s):He's trained two replacements, his son and his goddaughter, but hasn't given up the costume himself. Other than that, I don't think he has a sidekick, but he had one on the Arrow TV show.
Paramour(s):None. Wide speculation has him as a self-loathing gay with the hots for Daniel Dreiberg/Night Owl.ParamourIrina, Hippolyta, Catwoman/Selena Kyle
Has Been Played By:Jackie Earl HaleyOnce Played By:Roger Haskett, J.R. Ramirez
Could Have Been Played By:John LydonCould Have Been Played By:Bruce Willis
Song I Think Of:"Animal I've Become"Song I Think Of:"Stray Cat Strut"
Supernatural Powers:Nonthing super about him.Supernatural Powers:Grant has nine lives. Not nine lives total, but nine lives that get regenerated every "cycle," whatever that means.
Non-Super Abilities:He has a strong will, a sharp and exacting mind, a mental toughness that's terrifying to behold. He's well versed in vicious street brawling, makes a weapon out of whatever's at hand, and despite being generally unstable of mind, keeps his head in a crisis, bides his time, and strikes remorselessly. He's good with gadgets and can pick a lock. Mostly, just uses a grappling gun, sometimes for grappling, sometimes for gunning. He's got a heart for torture and uses it liberally.Non-Super Abilities:A championship boxer, he's an outstanding hand-to-hand combatant, with outstanding strength and agility, especially considering his age. He's also a good trainer, having trained Black Canary, Batman, and even Superman, to the extent that even makes sense.
Weaknesses:Is a short guy, with an unstable mind. Sees the world in black and white, which makes it hard for him to read people or know who his friends are, so mostly works without them. As noted above, he's both disgusted and confused by human sexuality, and may be hiding something there that terrifies him.Weaknesses:He's flesh and blood, and he's aging, and mostly has served in a training and advisory role in latter times. He's got a dark past and, you know, as you get older, having nine lives can be a problem, as much as a blessing.

It's been years since I read it, and there's been a bleh, slow-motion-action-sodden movie* in the interim, but I still have Rorschach-related nightmares-- that dog's-head image, mostly-- from time to time.

Sorry, Cat-Dad, this is a nonstarter.

*About which Kelly Leak was one of the few really impressive things, granted

All I know of Wildcat is what I've seen on Arrow. I do know Rorschach. He's a great character; the only knock on him is that he doesn't have a long history, but he gets my vote anyway.

The problem with Rorschach is what's good about Rorschach.

What's good about Rorschach is the problem with Rorschach.

He's like a Rorschach, that way.

I mean to say that what's appealing about him is what's ugly about him. He's a psychotic torturing sadist.

A poetic one.

Alan Moore's answer to Steve Ditko's Randian heroes, The Question and Mr. A, Rorshach takes Ditko's brand of Objectivism to its logical conclusion with this psychotic nutball for the ages. Watchman #6, "the Abyss stares also", profiles Rorshach in such a manner as to make him instantly iconic and the defining character of the Watchmen series (and later the movie as well).

As the sole entry of this landmark series, it's Rorshach by a mile.

Did a double-take on the name Irwin Hasen there as I never associated him with anything other than Dondi.
Still kicking at age 96.

Oh, just funnin' (though not nearly obvious enough about it, it seems).

How can you not vote for someone who is a psychotic torturing sadistic poet?
The fact that he was inspired by the death of Kitty Genovese just adds to his plusses.

Score one for torture.
