Once again, we are force to confront one of Vic Sage's uncomfortable interfamilial match ups. Two important notes:
[list][*]Though when you see a woman with a feminization of a male hero's name, you're typically seeing a derivative hero, Jessica Jones is anything but, having had a long history as a hero under other names.[/*:m]
[*]When you see a male and female character have reflections of each other's names (Batman/Batwoman, Spider-Man/Spider-Woman), their placement in the universe is usually to construct a merely symbolic marriage --- a rivalry/occasional uneasy partnership with an awkward sexual undercurrent --- Power Man and Power Woman are actually a married couple, with Jessica not taking on the nickname until becoming Luke's wife.[/*:m][/list:u]

Both Luke and Jessica are probably more known among readers by their civilian names, but we tend to go by hero codenames in our match ups, so it's Power Man vs. Power Woman.

Supernatural Powers:Luke's super strong and injury resistant, although not completely invulnerable, he's mostly bullet proof. He heals fast too. His jacket is as tough as his skin.Supernatural Powers:Jessica has super strength, enough to lift a car over her head. She also has some degree of invulnerablity (as implied by the quote above), but not completely so(she's bluffing somewhat). She can fly, although this ability has waned over the years. Jean Grey has given her mind protection against psionic attacts and other brain manipulation. She's healed from some pretty traumatic injuries.
Non-Super Abilities:He's a gifted street fighter that has become even more adept studying under and working with Iron Fist.Non-Super Abilities:She is a skilled detective and an investigative journalist, and has some solid-but-not-great-hand-to-hand skills. She's a mother, which is a pretty good ability in its own right.
Weaknesses:He's got a kid and everybody knows it. That can compromise a man. He's also a streetwise man who marches to his own beat, which can make him distrustful of institutions.Weaknesses:She's probably less invulnerable than that quote suggested. She's torn about her decisions, and has quit superheroing several times now. She has a kid, which compromises a person.

Tearing families apart. You bastards.

In the modern books, these guys are both fun, and they're a charming-as-hell, grounded couple. Tough one.

I voted for Luke Cage. I don't really know him as that bald-headed guy. To me, this is Luke Cage:

This couple puts the "power" into "power couple", and they'll be featured in a new Netflix series this year... "AKA Jessica Jones", starring Krysten Ritter:

with Mike Colter as Luke Cage:

Luke Cage was a Blaxploitation character of the early 70s, created by white guys to cash in on a cultural fad of the time. The character evolved over time, but not really enough for my liking. His original look, however, with that chain as a belt and a weapon and that unique head peace (to keep his `fro out of his eyes?) still resonates in my mind's eye.

ALIAS's Jessica Jones is one of the more interesting characters created at Marvel in recent years (maybe the only one?). I'm throwing her my support.

Perhaps Fman will be the "shwinnng" vote.

I keep conflating Jessica Jones with Jessica Drew.

I'm trying! I'm sure that the Netflix series will get me acquainted with Jessica Jones.

NETFLIX is going to be doing a DAREDEVIL series, too. I saw previews at Comic-con. It looked gritty and realistic, not superhero-y. Maybe this one will have a similar tone.

Re: CF WotS, Rd. 1: Power Man vs. Power Woman

I think it will. My understanding is that the four Netflix series (Daredevil, Jessica, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) will be all linked together, with a followup series where they all join together to form a group called The Defenders. (Very different, of course, from the Defenders that I remember, with Hulk, Namor, and Dr. Strange.)

A gal from Forest Hills with two Chinese grapefruits shoved down her blouse? Check please!

That is, check my drawers. For erections.

The Defenders once also included Angel & Iceman following their departures from X-Men and before their return in X-Factor #1

I am suprised Luke Cage is losing!

The girl's take it, 8-5. Bad day for the ghetto avenger, losing the pants in his own family.
