Home Brew...

...the other kind.

My solid, little coffee maker up and burned out on me today after a decade of dedicated service.

Lots of choices on the market. Anyone go fancier than the standard drip machine? Anyone rockin a little espresso side piece?

Wow, congrats on a decade for a coffeemaker. We go thru one every couple of years seems like. Some tiny piece of plastic breaks, or the pot style gets discontinued, or whatever.

We're on a DeLonghi dripper now. Uncomplicated but stylish, and I know they primarily are an espresso/cappucino brand. If you're really intrepid, see if your local coffee joint is looking to upgrade their equipment.

Re: Home Brew...

We have a Cuisinart and a Mr. Coffee (yes, a Mr. Coffee) for
coffee and a Krups espresso maker. We have friends with super
slick machines and I can't tell the difference. For me, it's the coffee
and not the coffee maker.

Good time to buy stuff like that now, lotta stuff marked down to
go go go ...

Re: Home Brew...

our standard 12-cup coffeemaker is almost 8 years old now I guess. I can't remember the brand. one of the standard ones.

I would love to get an espresso one. I'd enjoy steaming the milk and making myself lattes/mochas/etc. Haven't splurged though. I don't think I'd need one of the super fancy ones that has a bean hopper and all that, just one that isn't ridiculously crappy and steams the milk and pours the espresso and whatnot.

Re: Home Brew...

Our Krups espresso machine was reasonable and it makes
good coffee. Got it at Bed Bath & Beyond around this time
last year on sale and had one of those 20% coupons they
send out all the time so I felt like it was a steal.

Re: Home Brew...

I've been using Mr Coffee 4-6 cups (actually 2 cups) for a while now, but when mine stopped working last month we got a new Sunbeam 4-6 (actually 2 cups) cupper. They all dribble when you pour, argh.

I'm not much of a coffee snob, I just need it to wake up!

I only drink espresso, but my guess is I'm not that talented.
Got a hankerin' for some Molinari, but it's a little early in the
day haha.

Re: Home Brew...

I had an old one just like you. And when it crapped out I figured Id have to get one of these new fangle ones. But I was in the supermarket shopping and I found my old model on sale there for 19.99.
They only had the one, looked like it was around for awhile, but it was the old simple Mr Coffee machine. Fate brought us back together.

I use the Mr Coffee for my morning joe. We drink two
different coffees and it's easier having two machines.

Re: Home Brew...

I have two percolators too! One is camping one I used to use
for cold football tailgating. The other is a Corningware percolator
that was my Mom's from the 1960's. Nothing like the smell of a
kitchen when coffee is percolating... gotta break that out this
weekend for Sunday breakfast.

Ha. Never heard of Benny Bean. I take my coffee pretty serious and that's making me laugh.

I doubt they still make it... having an autographed bag
of it is pretty mettly cool!

That's not my photo but I agree - an autographed bag is definitely a BOC!

Re: Home Brew...

I have a small 6 cup model that I use as I am the only coffee drinker in my house. I brew one 4-5 cup pot that pours into a big 32 oz insulated cup, that I take to work with me every weekday because the coffee at work is atrocious. I don't even drink coffee on weekends, it tends to disrupt my nap routine.

Went through 2 in a year because both times I broke the glass pot while washing dishes. Now I have a stainless steel one that seems a bit more durable.
