Forecasts for Fifteen: Matt Bowman

Matt Bowman, like Gabriel Ynoa, finds himself falling into that category of Mets pitching prospects flying under the radar because of a sweet surfeit of pitching prospects. But as a starting pitcher who has held his own after a call-up from Bingo to Las Vegas, he is not to be overlooked, having turned in strong performances at every level since joining the organization out of Princeton University back in 2012, and climbing fast since then.

Plus, he's from Chevy Chase, and you're not.

That's him. All six feet and 165 pounds of him. What's your forecast of fifteen for Matt Bowman.

Nah, that's the Chipolte Rocket! (lefty, pudgy).

Matt Bowman looks like this:

Got to check my work after posting. I thought I clicked on a Bowman photo, and somehow grabbed that. A lefty! Doofus!

I don't know what Matt Bowman looks like, but that guy's not skinny enough to be six feet tall and weigh only 165.

Smells like he could be quite the little Gee... or, say, quite a big, fat Schwinden.

Sweet 3.5-to-1-type K-to-BB ratio, and slightly worse-looking surface numbers. A handful of midseason starts (following Niese-sized rotational holes) and September relief appearances, looking Old Nass-ty in those pen appearances.

7 G, 35 IP, 4.11 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 27 K, 9 BB

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Matt Bowman

When the fan base is clamoring for Syndergaard or Matz, its Matt Bowman who gets the surprise callup to take a one-and-done, rain makeup start in early June. He does OK: 5 IP, 3 K, 4 ER but all in that last inning, before giving way to the longman he was supposed to save. Charms the beat guys with Ivy League interview skills and they hop on the Bowman Bandwagon and rehearse ledes that bash the Mets for letting him slip away on the waiver wire.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Matt Bowman

I don't think he's going to taste any waiver soup this season. Not that we have right to expect another deGrom to appear for at least a generation, but he has the best chance to totally pull a deGrom.

Remember, Hairboy got called up on the same day as the more anticipate Montero. Wouldn't it be nice if Bowman gets called up along with Syndergaard and totally pants him?

Right now, the depth chart looks like:

Harvey
deGrom
Wheeler
Niese
Colon
***
Gee
Montero
Syndergaard
Bowman
Matz

Possibly Gorski is in there too, but he didn't get a camp invite. So I don't expect Bowman to get the call unless there's a confluence of him pitching like a beast at the time of a serious injury. He gets a September invite. 11 innings. NO runs.
