No. 7 subway line down; MTA says no timeline for restoration

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said there is no estimate as to when service along the No. 7 subway line will be restored after a Monday morning power outage stopped one train and left others stranded in tunnels.

According to the MTA, a Manhattan-bound train was just approaching Queensboro Plaza at about 9 a.m. when it lost power, confining people on board and blocking subsequent trains behind it in a tunnel.

A second train was backed out of Queensboro and coupled to the disabled train to tow it into the station.

The spokeswoman said at 12:30 that all No. 7 trains were in stations by 11:30, and that no passengers requested medical assistance.

The spokeswoman said No. 7 service into and out of Queens was stopped, and said the MTA could not say whether there would be a restoration of service before Monday’s evening rush hour.

Riders are being encouraged to seek alternate transportation on the E, F, N and R subway lines and the Q60 and Q32 buses.

The Long Island Rail Road also will be cross-honoring MetroCards at its Flushing, Mets-Willets Point and Woodside stations.

Does anyone know... does the 7 tunnel go 'under' the east river or
is the tunnel seated in the water?

I don;t know that answer to that question but I caught the 7 just in time this morning. Need to formulate a new route home.

I believe it goes under the river.

I think the only NYC subway tunnel that is "seated" in the water is the 63rd Street tunnel that carries the F train and, eventually the LIRR to Grand Central.
