Re: 2015 Oscar nominations announced

Comparing the GG noms for best picture to the AA list, the following 6 were on both lists:
*"Birdman"
*"Boyhood"
*"The Grand Budapest Hotel"
*"The Imitation Game"
*"Selma"
*"The Theory of Everything"

The GGs also nominated:
Foxcatcher
Into the Woods
Pride
St. Vincent

While the AAs overlooked them and only nominated these other 2 (leaving 2 slots open):
American Sniper"
"Whiplash"

Sometimes, you can understand an omission because it's a numbers game and there are only 10 slots, but leaving 2 open makes the rejection even more stinging for the creators of INTO THE WOODS and FOXCATCHER, particularly since both the director and screenwriter of FOXCATCHER were nominated. so they thought it was among the 5 best directed, best written, best acted (steve carrell nom) movies of the year, but still wasn't one of the 10 best movies? So much so that they left the ballot blank rather than nominate it? The producer must be one of the Koch brothers to get so dissed by the Academy. Meanwhile, SELMA was named one the top 8 best pictures, but neither its screenplay, direction, acting or any aspect of the film was worth a single nomination in any category? WOW. just WOW.

And i'm going to have to explain to my son this evening that GUARDIANS is an action/comedy (which almost never get considered), and it also made too much money for the academy to take seriously. Same with Andy Sirkus's performance in DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, which was as good as any actor nominated this year. And the overlooking of GONE, GIRL will upset him, too. Me? I expect these kinds of results.

Julianne Moore is a lock as best actress in "Still Alice."

Nice to see J.K. Simmons get a nod. He has a long of terrific under the radar work. He was terrific in "Juno."

Gotta drum up that contentious interest in the awards no?

I need to query the wife as to whether we're watching these so I can download a couple of them to watch so I'm not super lost.

Re: 2015 Oscar nominations announced

wow, i didn't even realize they passed over LEGO. That was not only the best animated film of the year, an argument could be made that it was in the top 10 of all movies this year. And not even a nomination? except for the song, i guess. (i can't wait til that gets performed on awards night!). Who ARE these people?

Didn't the Lego movie win a Razzie?

Re: 2015 Oscar nominations announced

No, THE LEGO MOVIE wasn't nominated for any Razzies, and was, instead, on a lot of film critcs' top 10 lists.

here's a link to the Razzie nominations: http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/raz ... d=28216849

The biggest losers there are TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, TRANSFORMERS, HERCULES, TAMMY, SEX TAPE, A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST, Kirk Cameron, Kelsey Grammer and Cameron Diaz.
