I'll play, though I have to say I'd prefer Words With Friends sine the UI is much friendlier and doesn't require me remembering I have scrabble games.

smg58 Feb 02 2015 05:03 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Michael Donato (I forget which alias you have): my three-year-old daughter accidentally (or at least I think it was an accident) started a game with you. It's not tournament-related, in case you were wondering why a game got started. Otherwise JCL get bonus points for scoring big with a baseball term, as he dropped "hurlers" on me for 83 points to get right back in the game.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 02 2015 05:23 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Very slow start in that one as I exchanged twice in my first 4 moves and probably should have exchanged three times.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 05 2015 08:28 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
2 blanks are stressful. Most often I think I go for the 1 bingo when I can get it and move on.
Ceetar Feb 05 2015 09:09 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
I'll try the 35-40 point word with one and move on. The blank practically guarentees the next rack won't be that horrible. If you bingo it right off you risk getting IVOOIUA or something.
d'Kong76 Feb 05 2015 09:25 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |

I cannot explain, Scrabble Jah just smiled upon me and and let me know OVERRATE was available across 2 triples just as I was about to play ROVER across one.
That's correct. And Marathon awaits a challenge from the loser of the Edgy/Kong game. Another reason to keep play flowing!

I don;t know if that thing can be manually disabled or not but you should know they give you only a limited number of "free" Teacher plays before they want you to start paying for it. I used up my free teacher points a while ago. Thanks for being a good sport anyway. You are now awaiting the winner of the Seawolf-LWFS match. Willets will get a challenge from me.

Oh, I use the Teacher button too, just to see all the brilliant plays that I miss. Hadn't thought of it being an unfair advantage. Either way, I don't think you needed to forfeit. I'd be happy to start over with a new game with no teachers.

I just closed the book on the game against the 'thon, winning 412 to 326. I guess my turning point was a the 83-point CUTLASS, but the truth seems to be that luck did not smile on our munitions engineer hero, as he was forced to throw all seven tiles back twice.

Getting there. More local than express, but getting there.

Been down all game. Just went for a Hail Mary and hit it. Up 283-261.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Mar 10 2015 12:07 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
I was SPEWING, SUNLIKE and defeated Ceetar 390-271 in the Winners' Bracket final.
Ceetar Mar 10 2015 12:17 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
good game. I had a few chances but the tiles/spots never fell right and I then got stuck with my dreaded enemy, the V. Should be able to finish this up by the ASG?

smg58 Mar 19 2015 07:40 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Chad took advantage of a juicy setup I knew would doom me as soon as I played it, and laid down the FUNK to the tune of 54 points with his last play to put away a back-and-forth game. And I'm outta here...
d'Kong76 Mar 19 2015 08:11 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
The empty-bag game should be done by the all-star break.
Edgy MD Mar 19 2015 09:15 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
So I challenge Chad. Remind me what his IRL name is...
Chad Ochoseis Mar 19 2015 10:44 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
smg58 deserves a kudo or two. I drew both blanks, 3 or 4 Ss, the Q, the X, the K, and I think the J. And I still needed a lucky break at the end. The board was tighter than Edgy, I'll PM you on FB.
seawolf17 Mar 20 2015 07:13 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Final: 423-354. Pretty comeback. Do I challenge Kase or the reverse?

d'Kong76 Mar 24 2015 08:40 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
seawolf17 has defeated me 365-301 in a forced forfeit.
Edgy MD Mar 24 2015 09:18 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
I drew some seemingly excellent racks in the early going against Ochoseis, but wasn't able to convert any of them into a bingo. (Had I had the Teacher turned on, I imagine I would have been embarrassed.)
Edgy MD Mar 29 2015 11:38 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Ochoseis is destroying me viciously and mercilessly. He may well hit 500.
Edgy MD Mar 29 2015 09:28 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
And 479–293 marks the end of my dance with Ochoseis.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Mar 29 2015 09:55 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Ochoseis advances to face Willets (Willets issues the challenge). Edgy is out. Parting gifts are backstage.
Mets – Willets Point Mar 30 2015 09:09 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Assuming that I remembered Chad's real name correctly, I won the faceoff in our game by dropping the puck with HOCKEYS for 94 points.
Chad Ochoseis Apr 02 2015 03:42 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
A bingo this morning INFLATES my score by 64 points. Then Willets just answered with a Metly GRIEVE for 42. Then I just got a non bingo 82 with JET and JANES, with the J on a triple letter and the JANES on a double word to pull within 8. This is turning into a great game.
seawolf17 Apr 03 2015 07:16 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
I just whooped up on FMan by about a hundred. I took an early lead and played defense the rest of the game and hated myself for it.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 03 2015 08:38 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Congrats. You are waiting for the winner of Willets vs. Ochoseis. You are the low seed so challenge whoever emerges.

Ochoseis has more of a social life than I do.
seawolf17 Apr 03 2015 01:37 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Just making a comic reference to the fact that our earlier game took roughly a month to play.
Fman99 Apr 04 2015 03:47 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Good game Wolfie. This was not my finest Scrabble hour as I finished with less than 300 points, not a typical showing for me. I had a bingo at one point but could not find an opening for it, ironically, the bingo would have been the word OPENING.
Chad Ochoseis Apr 07 2015 09:02 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Ochoseis has a long-distance girlfriend who is a teacher, and spring break was last week. So she visited here for a few days and then we spent last weekend at her house in Cleveland. Not much time left over for scrabbling. I gambled on a bingo that turned out to be a phony, and am back to getting my ass handed to me with 35 tiles to go. So wolfie may want to start studying his Willets game films now.
Chad Ochoseis Apr 10 2015 06:28 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
I'm not dead yet...just went QUOITING for 86 points. 390-369 Willets, 3 tiles left in the bag.
Mets – Willets Point Apr 10 2015 08:19 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Crap. I've not been feeling confident at all about my lead.
Chad Ochoseis Apr 10 2015 02:34 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
At the endgame now. I chopped Willets' lead down to one point with an ADZ. 437-436. Willets has 4 tiles left, I have 3. A true Scrabble Classic here.

Now that Seawolf is a dancing star he doesn't have the time to finish beating me. Seawolf is up 328 to 286 with one tile in the bag.

Mets – Willets Point Apr 22 2015 12:23 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Seawolf beat me 381-327. Sadly, my last rack was a bingo but I had no legal place to hook it.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Apr 22 2015 12:43 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Congrats Seawolf, you've earned a rematch of your first-round game with Ceetar in the losers' bracket final (Ceetear goes first). Winner to face me, twice if necessary, to crown the 2015 Scrabble World Title and associated crown, sash and gifts.
Edgy MD Apr 22 2015 12:45 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |

and it's over. I lose 369-317. Was trailing most of the game by ~50, managed to crawl close hooking Sprout to Medic but he hooked on XIS for AXIS/GNARL for the TW and basically the match. I should've seen that one.

John Cougar Lunchbucket May 12 2015 08:17 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
OK Wolfie, challenge me for all the marbles
seawolf17 May 13 2015 09:45 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Challenged.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 13 2015 10:22 PM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
Seawolf forces the "if" game with a 364-351 victory, secured by a 39-point late-game triple, VISE. Scores were tight throughout, with lots of 2 and 3-letter plays punctuated with a Bingo for both players -- he got JOLTERS, I got CONDENSE, each with the help of a blank -- so the final comes down to a single game.
Mets – Willets Point May 14 2015 09:26 AM Re: 2015 CPF Scrabble Classic |
