Super Bowl

Who is the surprise "old school" woman singer going to be?

And who are we rooting for? I am rooting for Seattle; NE has had its day.

Re: Super Bowl

I had heard rumors of Missy Elliot.

Seattle, for sure. D-Dad is from that neck of the woods, and the Patriots are cheaters; it's an easy decision.

Re: Super Bowl

I still haven't recognized Seattle as an NFC franchise and don't much care who wins.

I just want to eat (menu is chili, wings 2 ways - grilled w/blue cheese apple slaw; spicy-fried with sour cream dip - plus chips + homemade pineapple salsa). Also beer (founders all-day IPA)

My hubby is making a verrrrrrry aromatic roast. I can't wait to eat!

Sure as shit I'm not watching half time for Missy Eliot and Katy Perry, though I do like Lenny Kravitz

Maybe the Seahawks didn't go to Marshawn (sp?) Lynch on that last drive because he was in 'Least Mode' at that moment.

Maybe they were afraid what he wouldn't have said in the post game interview.

That Patriots' interception really sucked the air out of the Seahawks championship hopes. Seattle fans must be feeling so deflated right now.

I'm with you there. Second and goal from just inside the 1 yard line and Marshawn Lynch (who led the NFL in rushing touchdowns) is in the backfield. I fully expected power football from Seattle and I expected Lynch would punch it in to win the game. Seattle tried to get cute and it bit them in the ass.

No, those are what Brady wears at halftime.

My only comments about halftime are pretty much the same ones I had last year IIRC.
- Why does an act supposedly big enough to headline the Superbowl require -- TWO in this case -- other stars just to complete a 15 minute set?
- And at the risk of sounding like an old man yelling at kids to get off my lawn, would it hurt to just once see an artist these days who can sing a song without the presence of 75 half-naked dancers on the stage with them? Not that I have anything against half naked dancers mind you, but to my mind it always implies a lack of confidence that the star has enough talent to entertain a crowd on their own.

Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot were apparently there for the Walking Dead fans, their careers brought back to life for this appearance.

Re: Super Bowl

My thoughts:
- Halftime was a bit of a mess. To me the sound wasn't great (particularly with Missy Elliott, who I could barely hear), and it was overly-packaged. And I guess it's great for Lenny Kravitz--who apparently Mrs. Solo finds very HOT--to get on the Super Bowl, but maybe he should talk to his agent about being on the stage for more than about 20 seconds.
- My party host kept muting the TV during the commercials. I guess he just didn't get it. I did like the Snickers Brady/Machete commercial, which I happened to hear after someone else commandeered the remote.
- Great to have an exciting game that came down to the last second.
- Much as I despise him, Brady came up big in the fourth quarter.
- And why is the media ignoring the biggest story...how utterly shitfaced Bob Kraft was as he accepted the Lombardi Trophy!!

Re: Super Bowl

I loved how this game ended - Pete Carroll outsmarted himself - instead of just hammering it in again and again, he played cutesy with the clock to make sure Brady wouldn't get the ball back. I wasn't surprised at all by the pass. It was obvious that New England would stuff the middle to try and stop Lynch, but spread the field a bit and let Wilson do what he does best. In the end, the Seahawks showed the world the punks they truly are - **** them, and go back to the AFC where they belong.

Re: Super Bowl

you guys might know the rules better than me, on that bobble-catch..if he had grabbed it mid-air, lost control as he fell, it bounced off his chest as he landed, and then he pulled it again, wouldn't that have been ruled no-catch? catch rules confuse me.

After going out of my way to praise Seattle for their inventive play-calling in the NFC game, especially in contrast to Green Bay's ultra-conservatism, I have to agree here that Carroll got too cute by (more than) half there by calling the pass. Not sure if working the clock was the specific reason for it, but whatever the reason it was a stunning faux pas IMO.

In the end, the Seahawks showed the world the punks they truly are ...

No. The difference between this one and the one that got reversed on Dallas a few weeks back was that, in the earlier one, the ground is what caused that ball to be bobbled in the first place. Yesterday's catch, whether it happened the actual way or the alternate way you describe, never involved the ball hitting the ground either in or out of the player's grasp.

Re: Super Bowl

To be honest, the Super Bowl is all about spectacle and pageantry and thus I think Perry's performance was pretty much well-choreographed and entertaining set. I enjoy a combo of virtuoso instrumentalists playing an acoustic set as much as the next guy, but that's not really what the Super Bowl is about.

This.

When I get called to do the halftime show, I will have the self-confidence to do my set with 75 fully-naked dancers.

This is exactly it. He started running out the clock before the points were on the board. I feel bad for Seattle fans, but Carroll got exactly what he deserved.

As far as coaching goes, this is the equivalent of Leon Lett idiocy.

Think about it - we kept hearing about the Legion of Boom, but he didn't have faith in his defense to hold them for 30 seconds or so?

I missed that play, sort of. After the receiver bobbled the pass and the ball began to flutter away from him, I turned away to skim some magazine, certain that the pass was incomplete and the play was over.

I realized it was a catch right away but part of what probably fooled you and a lot of people is that Al Michaels called it as incomplete (and I don't remember Collinsworth correcting him) and five or six seconds must have gone by before he noticed the refs spotting the ball and corrected himself.

I think the highlight of the Superbowl halftime show was the stage itself. They should have shown more above and away views.
It was also nice that I had heard snippets of a bunch of her songs on commercials. Going in I figured I wouldn't know a Katy Perry song if she was standing in front of me singing it (which she would be doing). But I knew a 'lil bit.
