Avengers may follow Captain America, but they ain't all American. Here a former Soviet super spy meets an African king in the Soldiers, Spies, & Vigilantes bracket of the Marvel Conference. Neither is to be underestimated.

Song I Think Of:"The Black Widow"Song I Think Of:"Black Cat"
Supernatural Powers:Initially unpowered, her body has been augmented by nanotechnology that makes her resistant to aging and disease and mkes her heal faster.Supernatural Powers:From the "Panther God" and an herb that is poisonous to any outside his bloodline, the panther has super senses, and augmented strength, speed, stamina, reflexes, and agility.
Non-Super Abilities:She's a dangerous spy — world-class as an athlete, gymnast, aerialist, and markswoman. If there's a martial art, she's mastered it: karate, juda, ninjutsu, akido, savate, kung fu, boxing, wilmajo, and karatami. I actually just made those last two up, but you can be certain that she has mastered them. Or mistressed them. She's also a ballerina, which can come in handy. She's really smart, a talented field commander, and an expert strategist and improvisoress. She's particularly deft at psychomanipulation, often playing people who think they are playing her, the crafty little badger.Non-Super Abilities:He's a king of a nation with vast military assets. His throne also makes him as rich as Croseus, which is handy. He's a hunter, a tracker, a politician, and an inventor/scientist, specialising in applied physics (don't they all?). Even without his abilities enhanced, he's a master acrobat, and a mortally dangerous martial artist.
Stuff:She wears bracelets that fire her energy blasts that are her signature attack form (the "Widow's bite"). She also has grappling hooks, tear gas, and other mini high-tech weapons she keeps on her tightly clad person.Stuff:He's an African king, both tribal and national, and so has a vast colleciton of magical artifacts, as well advanced technology. He's got a costume made of vibranium, somehow. Later additions to his kit include an "energy dagger," the "Ebony Blade of the Black Knight," a portable supercomputer, and thrice-blessed armor. I don't know if he typically lugs this whole arsenal around, but an arsenal it is.
Weaknesses:While resistent to deathly things, she's still a flesh-and-blood person. It kind of sucks to be the only non-invulnerable person in the crowd. Additionally, she was trained through psychologic conditioning and that suggest she's vulnerable to that sort of thing. The Soviet masters who made her what she is have also left her infertile, for what that's worth.Weaknesses:His connection to the Panther God can be severed, and he can be denied his super-empowering eleven herbs and spices, and then he's just another scary guy in a suit, but quite mortal. Due to his heightened senses, bright lights, loud noises, & strong smells can potentially overwhelm him.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Black Widow vs. Black Panther

T'Challa, king of wakanda, has been a classic character since his inception. But i fell in love with the Black Widow long before ScarJo showed up. When DD started sharing his title with her, she swung into my life and her widow's bite bit deep into my heart. Sorry but where the heart goes, the head(s) must follow.

also, i thought ideal casting for her (prior to Scarlett's definitive portrayal) was CAT PEOPLE-vintage Nastassia Kinski

Fair enough. I'll make the change.

That makes two Bowie connections.

The Black Widow is one of Marvel's sexiest characters, but the Black Panther, with his high-tech kingdom in the African jungle, is too cool not to get my vote.

For his arch-enemy, I would have chosen Klaw, the Murderous Master of Sound.

Re: CPF WotS, Rd. 1: Black Widow vs. Black Panther

There is no right answer here.

The idea of Wakanda-- thoroughly informing and informed by the Panther ethos-- is just so powerful for me, that it tips the balance. For me, it's techy badass over sexy badass, by the most skintight of black margins.

Although, nobody ever likes my inspired casting decisions, or my winning DJ selections. This makes me sad.

I love the notes from Stan Lee at the bottom the panel. modern comics, actually anything since Stan Lee, just think they are too cool for that sort of thing.

There have been a lot of good comics over the decades, but I love the Marvel Comics of the 1960's more than anything else.
