Forecasts for Fifteen: Bartolo Colon

An inconsistent 2014 saw Bartolo Colon alternating three good starts with three spotty starts. He did what he's best at — limiting walks and pitching deep into games, but one might hope for more winning baseball.

Oh, and he swung the bat like a maniac. Made Al Leiter look like a pro.

Is it all about the inning-eating? Or is there more you can get out of Bartolo? What do you think he'll give the Mets in 2015?

Y'know, the only real difference between his 2013 and his 2014 with us-- apart from hilarity-value-added from the ABs-- is 20 more hits allowed, with half of those flying out of the park. His K numbers and control numbers were both better.

I'm not sure how much of the hittability will "normalize," especially since the career HR rate is far closer to last year's than 2013's, but hey... one can hope and pray. All the easier, since he looks like a binging cherub.

25 GS, 165 IP, 3.65 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 11 W/6 L, 133 K/32 BB, 15 HR allowed

Will Bartolo break Doug Saunders' record? And if he does, will Bartolo then hold onto it?

Assures his spot in the rotation when he accidentally eats Dillon Gee for breakfast.

I have no idea what to expect of him. Something less than last year I guess is a good place to start. He'll have a small fire beneath him in that there seems to be a few contenders for his job if he doesn't get it done.

My first thought is "Why is Lucas Duda playing shortstop?"

I'm trying to figure out what angle you're shooting from here.

Lucas was at first base. Bartolo was looking at the outfield between pitches.

You've got cold evidence that Mike Maddux is apparently mesmerized from checking out Bartolo's butt and your biggest concern is the camera angle?!?

Dillon was wearing his camouflage uniform and Bartolo mistook him for a stack of flapjacks with syrup.

8-6 4.25 traded late in year to make room for a younger arm.

The only thing I'd change from this is he might get traded earlier in the year to make room for Dillon Gee.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Bartolo Colon

I'm also trading this guy, in late June, to the Angels. He's 4-4, 4.01 in about 76 innings at that point.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Bartolo Colon

I also expect he'll get traded, but just prior to the July deadline. I'll peg him for 10 wins in 19 starts, 123 IP, 3.84 ERA, just under 6 K/9. We'll get a single-A kid and a PTBNL for him.

I'll echo the gets traded after going about .500... mid July.

9 starts before traded. 34 Ks. 3.8 ERA. 19 BB, 15 comments from me about how he's campaigning for the DH in the National League. (not counting this one)

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Bartolo Colon

gets hurt in the 1st 2 months and is never heard from again as either Gee or Syndergaard make his return undesirable to management. alternatively, they trade him in june and eat half the contract to get a prospect back

When he stays the whole year, and is starting the Wild-Card one-game playoff, I will have all y'all's money.

Adam Rubin reports that Bartolo will be the Opening Day starter.

Encountering lot of cyberhate for this decision.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Bartolo Colon

I remember in 1984 I was pretty upset that Mike Torrez was going to be the Opening Day starter. I was 20 years old, so I'll cut myself some slack here. So if the people complaining about Colon getting the start are as young and callow as I was, then it's only fair for me to cut them the same slack. But any mature grownups who are having a conniption over this (whatever a "conniption" may actually be) need to get over it.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Bartolo Colon

If my math is correct, Bartolo has RBI'd in his 66th at-bat, two short of breaking — much less keeping — Doug Saunders record.
