Forecasts of Fifteen: Rafael Montero

I'm Rafael Montero. Yeah, you know me. Late-blooming control specialist who exhibited little of that trademark control during my initial call-up. Last year, I got leapfrogged by deGrom, which was dirty pool. Now, folks are rooting for other potential leapfroggers with names like Syndergaard and Matz, and maybe others. Not me. I'm rooting for ME! Bullpen or rotation, I intend to deliver the goods.

Rafael. The name is Hebrew. It means "God has healed." F'reals. I think I'm gonna heal a lot this year. What do you think?

Re: Forecasts of Fifteen: Rafael Montero

Think he'll get a shot and do well in limited action. There'll be an injury or a trade and he'll be 4-2,3.00. This will set up next offseason where more trade rumors will swirl. It'll be hard to crack the Harvey/DeGrom/Wheeler/Syndegaard/Matz rotation, though.

Battles Carmine Ronzonni and Carlos Torres and Dillon Gee for that last bullpen slot, but instead goes to Vegas where he and Dilson Hererra and carmine Ronzonni conspire to motivate Sandy Alderson to trade Muffy and Gee to the frigging Marlins for nothing.

Joins the bullpen and puts up better numbers than Andrew Miller does for the MFYs.

A mid-season call-up who will perform more effectively this year than last.

He may be part of a late season trade after spending the year up to that point in AAA.
Sigh.

Skip wants to see you in his office and he has that
'you've been traded in 2015' look on his face.

Re: Forecasts of Fifteen: Rafael Montero

His second go-round will be much better than the first, but it will come mostly as a reliever. 45 IP in 25 games with a 3.15 ERA.

Will be one of those "Can't find a spot despite pitching pretty well' guys who ends up pitching pretty well all things considered.
