Forecasts for Fifteen: Daniel Murphy

I ain't talkin' about nothing but baseball. I'm a baseball player, not sociologist, or whatever.

Yeah, I'm still baseball player who looks awkward going to his backhand. So be it. What do you think I'll do in 2015? And will I do some or all of it for a team that is not the Mets?

Chooses All the (Young) Girls Love Alice as his walk up to the plate music.

More boner-defense-slash-good-batter
Tons of slappers, tons of E-4s
He turned a DP? Say a "bless you" to the sky
For unless he learns to walk
Takes a pay cut, or shortstop
We'll bid his Irish Hammerin' goodbye

I predict a lot of problems with grabbing and pulling the bat out of the bat rack and then immediately feeling sinful and embarrassed.

because they are straight and rigid like an erection, see

Not an All Star year, but a solid one.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Daniel Murphy

You can pencil him for his usual .285 with 40 doubles, 10 homers and adequate defense at second.
Not sure whether those numbers will all be compiled as a Member of the Mets.
If he gets dealt to the MFYs (maybe part of a multi-team deal), subtract 10 doubles and add 10 homers because of that little league park.

Traded to the Twins or perhaps the Rays or maybe the Rockies and possibly the Pirates, though it could be Cincinnati, Kansas City or Cleveland. Also possible: Dodgers, Padres, Yankees, Seattle, Boston and maybe Philadelphia. Might go to the Astros or Blue Jays. Possible good fit in Atlanta or Oakland. White Sox could possibly give up something for him, as could the Rangers, Cardinals or Cubs.

You're nuckin' futs, buddy.

I mean, Seattle? Not Seattle.

The Nats, though, maybe. Or the Clevelanders.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Daniel Murphy

Murphy's been the most reliable Met to produce like the back of his card for years.

Remains to be seen: Whether the burden of being the-guy-who-said-that-thing will be a weight on his shoulders.

I tend to guess no, as he's hit while bearing the weight of being the-guy-who-can't-field-that-position and the-guy-who-is-batting-cleanup-despite-not-being-suited-for-it.

I like to think there'll be enough stories circulating around the Mets that Murphy will get to do his thing. His baseball thing, not his lifestyle-commenting thing.

And yeah, that should look like the back of his card, and his 110-ish OpS+

Traded sometime in 2015, for less that they probably could
have gotten in the off-season.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Daniel Murphy

I'm starting to get a strange notion that continued flourishing by the team could be bad news for Murphy's tenure. It's dangerous to undermine team harmony by trading one of their longest-tenured players and last season's only All Star, but
[list:1gacewwm][*:1gacewwm]He's slumpin'.[/*:m:1gacewwm]
[*:1gacewwm]He's seemingly not with the program, offensively.[/*:m:1gacewwm]
[*:1gacewwm]He's shown some serious unheadiness, defensively.[/*:m:1gacewwm]
[*:1gacewwm]He's in his walk year.[/*:m:1gacewwm]
[*:1gacewwm]They seem to have some ready-to-launch redundancy at his position.[/*:m:1gacewwm][/list:u:1gacewwm]

I'm not advocating, but he could probably net a decent reliever.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Daniel Murphy

And here's hoping, if it does break that way, that it goes down after he's got all of his three-run, first-inning doubles out of his system.

I can only assume that Murphy was reading this thread in the dugout today.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Daniel Murphy

I twice started MUFFWATCH threads today but couldn't pull the submit trigger for fear of interfering with winstreak mojo.

He's had 60 PAs, the MFY series will get him in reasonable "projection" range of 75 and we'll see from there.

His one seeming advantage is a lack of lefthanded hitting would-be jobstealers.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Daniel Murphy

Another advantage he seemingly has is a mechanical soundness that suggests that the psychology of pressing won't mess up his swing.

But it does seem to be messing up whatever modest plate discipline he has.

I'm afraid you may be starting a Recker Watch thread pretty soon.
