Forecasts for Fifteen: Jonathon Niese

Yeah, it's nice when the grim reaper comes calling, and he looks at me and at Gee, and I'M the one carrying the lefty card. But that only gets me so far. So I take my vitamins, get my sleep, and pray to God that my days of injury are in the past. When all is said and done, remember that I'm still a permanent member of the small club of Mets opening day starters. And I'm NOT sitting next to Mike Torrez. Maybe Pete Harnisch, but not Torrez. So, don't be counting me out. But that brings up the question... what are you counting on me for in 2015?

A 3.99 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP and about one hundred hairs torn out of my head (there won't be many left after that) in frustration and a season long sore throat from screaming for Terry to get him out of the game before its totally lost. I can't wait until he is replaced in the rotation. I hope his numbers are good enough so the Mets can get something valuable in return. Later

195 IP, 155 K, 3.37 ERA, 45 BB, throws 498 curveballs You know, I agree with all the injury talk. even the Spring Training narrative is about how he was in pain last year and feels so much better this year. And then I looked and he threw 187.2 IP which is nearly a career high. He's thrown 521 over the last three years which is 52nd in baseball. He went on the DL on 7/4 after getting hit with a line drive (Thought it was technically for 'shoulder soreness') but wrapping that around the ASB he didn't really miss much time. There were multiple MRIs last spring and he had an elevated heart rate late in the season. Career low in BB per 9. He only went less than 5 IP once besides the 7/4 game. He's a competitor, for whatever that's worth. If he does pitch a full season again this year that health stuff very well might be a footnote and he could become a really hot commodity. he'd be on basically a 3/30 yr contract with team buyouts for both those last two years. if he pitches to the 3.49 ERA he's had over the last three seasons or better and is healthy that's something the Mets could make a killing on.

I'm going to guess he'll be 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA through his first three starts.
