Saturday 3/7 ST vs Marlins

Mets lose 8-7 - two hitless innings from starter Steven Matz. Was perfect after hitting his first batter - 3R HR from Brandon Allen. Then four runs in the 8th made it close - 2 hits each for Campbell and Danny Muno - also decent on the mound was 2.2 innings from Gee [0 runs, 1 hit] - not so good were Montero's 3rd & 4th innings [several walks & singles and needed a bail out from Gee] - and then just plain terrible was 1/3 of an inning from Jack Leathersich [BB, BB 1B, SB, BB, Line-out, 1B] which led to a 6-run Marlins 7th (the inning began as a 3-2 NYM lead)

I saw the Mets /Braves game. Conforto had 3 solid hits (inc a double) and drove in 3. His at bats were very impressive. He has a sweet swing that reminds me of a young Tony Gwynn. I swear to God that Flores looked like he was running on broken ankles. Check out footage of his scoring from 2nd. I really don't understand how an athlete could be so bad at lifting his feet up and down.

Yeah, I didn't even realize that it was split squads today, tough to keep track at this time of year. Mets 3 - Braves 1 - 3 innings of 1 run/2 hit ball from the deGrominator, then five other pitchers combined for six shutout innings: Bowman (2 IP), Gilmartin, Carlyle, Goeddel, Thorton (1 IP/each) - and 3 hits/3 RBIs from Conforto (1 RBI single, 2 RBI double)

I don't know if he just turned his ankle a little at third or it was his seemingly larger, chronic problem, but man.

He seemed a bit unsure of himself rounding 3rd there - as if he was expecting to get held up only to be surprised by the 'Go' signal which in turn messed with his gait. What he should have known, and which the coach obviously did, was that it was EYJr throwing the ball in from the OF and when that happens everyone not named Bartolo gets the green light.

That was a stop/start kind of thing. Wilmer is no gazelle, but that was just an awkward moment on his part.

The real concern is when he's halfway home, in the initial live shot before the replay. He's trying to accelerate and his feet aren't really coming off the ground. If the throw had gone through, it would have been surprisingly close.

I think he thought he was going to miss the base so he momentarily stutter stepped to be sure he hit it, then had a second brain fart while processing whether that should impact whether it was wise to continue on his way home. Sure is an awful looking runner.
