Forecasts for Fifteen: Bobby Parnell

Let me tell you something. Who knows what to expect of a fireballer, who at one point hit 103 (?!), in his first year back from Tommy John surgery? But be assured of this: Noah Syndergaard's will NOT be the last lunch I steal this season.

I'm Bobby Parnell, and it takes a village to keep my beard clean. What do you expect of my 2015?

57 G, 58 IP, 2.79 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 51 K/17 BB, 3 HR allowed, 20 games saved, a whole lot of unspoken standards upheld

Does not reclaim the closer's spot, despite what Terry says. He'll have a good year but not a great one, pitching the 7th/8th mostly and generally not on back-to-back days.

45 appearances, 2-2, 3.25, 3 saves. Lots of holds.

Gives the Mets another bullpen arm, which is good,
Gives Terry another closer option, which is bad.
Yeah, the sports adage says you don't lose your position due to injury, but this isn't football. He was a pitcher who had an arm injury.
But I feel if Mejia has a burp in performance, Terry will put Parnell in the closer role, even though Familia will be having a better year.
The result will be 2-4 3.96ERA 7 saves and 5 blown saves.

I don't see why anyone expects anything of Parnell, other than to enforce the unwritten rules of baseball and lunch.

He missed half a season with neck surgery and a whole season with elbow surgery, and he's not going to be ready when the bell rings. Why would you make him a closer?

Put me down for 25 games, 26.2 innings, a save or two, a few HRs, nothing big.

I disagree. Having another good reliever is going to go a long way towards him using one of his best pitchers in non-save situations when it really matters.

Provided he does come back healthy and all that. I suspect he'll get some save opportunities but struggle at first, do a quick DL stint with some 'soreness' that is really just soreness, and will be mostly back to normal upon return but with fewer save opportunities until game 6 of the NLCS when Mejia is gassed and he locks it down, blowing a fastball by Yasiel Puig to clinch the pennant.

32.1 IP, 4.5 ERA, 9.1 SO9 3 saves, 3 blown saves.

I'm not optimistic that he'll be effective.

Will fill this and fill that, that's what fillers-inners
do in 2015.

Exactly.

Can this be right? Kristie Ackert in the Daily News this morning says that Bobby Parnell pitched in a minor league intrasquad game yesterday. He threw 20 pitches and gave up 11 hits.

That doesn't sound so good!

Or very good for the hitters in the minor league system.

Re: Forecasts for Fifteen: Bobby Parnell

The mlb.com account says he threw 20 pitches, 11 of which landed for strikes.

It also says he gave up two hits, which makes more sense.

Unless she was using Roman numerals.
