"I Remember Fulton County Stadium" (Quiz)

Inspired by Batmags's Quickie Quizzes, I did a little checking and have determined that ONE player remains active as of Spring 2015 who can say "I played at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, where the New York Mets invented the National League Championship Series, where John Stearns delivered a message to Chief Noc-a-homa, where Rick Camp did unspeakable things to Tom Gorman at unspeakable hours and, oh yeah, Henry Aaron told Babe Ruth to get lost."

Who is this fellow who lives to tell the tale of when men were men, Interleague games were theoretical, Chipper Jones was merely young and vaguely unlikable and Turner Field referred to the owner's backyard? (You could've given me a hundred guesses and I would've needed another hundred.)

That would be one of the more anonymous long-time players in MLB today, pitcher Jamie Wright - currently hurling for Texas after spending 2014 with the Dodgers.

And that's over.

I have to confess that though I've watched Major League Baseball every season in which Jamey Wright has played it, starting with 1996 when he appeared at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium as a Rockie rookie, I've known only one thing about him: that he's the brother of onetime phenom Jaret Wright.

Which he isn't. I just kind of assumed he was. So I'm down to knowing this tidbit.

Seriously, zero impression on me, which isn't his fault, but I'm looking at his 19 going on perhaps 20 years of service with 10 teams and it is spectacularly not spectacular. One postseason pitched in (2013 for the Rays), nothing like an All-Star campaign, his only league-leadership cameos are when he lands among most walks, wild pitches and hit batsmen (tied for N.L. shutout championship in 2001: 1), no "hidden value" anywhere.

Good on ya, Jamey Wright. Keep gettin' that major league meal money.

BTW, "active" may no longer apply to Jamey Wright if he has many more days like today.

One veteran, Jamey Wright, who the Rangers are hoping can fill an integral bullpen piece, failed to retire any of the seven Brewers he faced at Surprise Stadium on Saturday. He allowed six runs on five hits and two walks.

Then again, Texas must know it's not his first rodeo.
