Celebrate responsibly. And if you're near Princeton, check out the festivities.

How I Wish I Could Calculate Pi Easily

That's the supposedly "easy" mnemonic to remember the early digits of Pi (by the number of letters in each of those words) 3.1415926
Personally, I never had a problem remembering as far as 3.14159 without an odd sounding sentence as a cue and, frankly, if Pi to five decimals isn't accurate enough for whatever you're doing then you've got a lot bigger problems than mere memorization.

I had never heard of that device until last week when the NYT Sunday Xword puzzle used that sentence [69-Across + 94A + 72A] as its main theme along with a five other strategically placed Pis (I don't know how to type the symbol here) within a single box which were to be read as T T (which it sort of looks like) for the Across answers and P I when read Down.

Clever people those NYT Xword creators. Note also the shape of the blackened squares in the center of this puzzle which has left/right symmetry rather than the usual complete symmetry.
And, the word FILLING in inside the Pie ... Get it?!

Re: Happy Pi Day!

We went into Princeton for some of the Pi Day celebrations. It was a lot of fun.

We bought these at the House of Cupcakes -

It all reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Re: Happy Pi Day!

we have staff lunch meetings on Tuesdays when its somebody's birthday, so today we're having a Pi lunch celebration, with a selection of pies to choose from, including a key lime green pie to honor the spirit of the day.

There are definitely worse ways to celebrate.
