IGT 4/10/15 at Atlanta, Game #4

Niese opposes Eric who I remember skunking us in what was his/ looks it up..../ 2nd MLB appearance with the Dodgers in '06. Career he's 3-1, 2.48 in 6 career starts against us. Guess we'll see Lagares lead off. I think the Mets have a lineup that could murder middling lefties if they want to.

I'm glad they're not benching Duda outright against lefties, but here's hoping Mayberry makes him fight to stay in the lineup against them. I imagine Mayberry starts against three out of four lefties right now, taking two of those games from Duda and one from Granderson. But pretty soon they may be looking for at-bats for Campbell too.

Neither Wood (going Sunday) or Stults look to have real big platoon splits so I guess it's, whatever.

You understand that in MASK there was all kinds of makeup and prosthetics, but Eric Stults doesn't look anything like he did back in SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL or MEMPHIS BELLE either. Nice that he found a second career though.

I drink to Terry and his nutty-assed lineups. Less obvious than Mayberry batting third, but still notable, is keeping Tejada on the bench for Niese's first start.

That's Chris Johnson in the Braves lineup, as opposed to Kelly -- which makes sense vs Niese seeing as how Kelly hits LH

Niese looks more like some creaky veteran just hanging on than a midcareer midlevel starter. It's like he aged 8 years. His delivery has really changed.

Granderson's walked five times now this season and has scored after three of them. And four of those walks came on full counts and I know at least two, and maybe three, of them started with him down 0-2 Not that I don't want him to start hitting one of these days, but it's a decent sign and I'll take what we can get here.

Nice to break the HR-drought and am grateful for them tying up the game ... but innings with 5 hits including 2 HRs plus a walk should yield more than 3 runs. Muffy's GiDP was certainly ill-timed.

Montego threw real well that whole inning - not just on the ABs that turned out well. He deserved better right up to that last pitch. Bad defense all night, even where there weren't errors.

You hate to suggest that he curb his aggressiveness but he really never got all that close to that ball and by diving wound up turning it into a double. As much as I loved putting Maybone in for Duda, a real opportunity was lost not starting Tejada, which would have done exactly what Terry speculated it would have, gotten a better glove in there for Niese, who pitches to groundouts. Alternatively, it could have gotten a right-handed bat in there for Murphy. Or it could have possibly done both, if Tejada starts at short and Flores at second. As it is, this game certainly can give fuel to the doubters. I'd hate to see Flores have his Melvin Mora game in April, leading fans to lose confidence in him before the home opener.

I think Terrry (Sandy?) is determined to ride Flores long enough in order to see what they have there rather than pull him in Game 4 on the basis that they think there might be trouble. The disturbing part is that all the drama turned out to be on the throws where he had seemed reasonably sound previously. Doesn't help, of course, that he's also not hitting (small sample size alerts all around).

There always might be trouble. You go for the lineup with the best chance to succeed and I think that lineup should have included Tejada. I don't think of it as pulling a guy, so much as running somebody else out there. You want to do a young player a favor, put him in the best position to succeed. There's no shame in starting 80-85% of the time. Now we've got Kevin Kernan torpedoing the whole project.

I don't agree with Kernan as of yet, However, during the off season I believe Sandy said he was going to address SS and the bullpen. To my knowledge he has done neither. Maybe Tejada plays last night and this is all moot.

Just as a Fwiw, If you are going to keep Tejada around I thought I thought it was specifically for matchups like last night. As far as Wilmer goes. I still like him. It is a four game sample size. He is likely still a scared wabbit out there. Heck, even David Wright mistakes. The one thing that bothers me is batting Wilmer ninth. We all want him to break out so lets instill some kahnfidence. Is batting him him last the message you want to send to the kid? Personally, no.

That play by Wright was so odd. I'll have to see that again to see who was batting. Even after he missed the runner he could have thrown the guy out at first. And he chases the runner to third. It looks like this whole game was a mess. All I ask from Flores is to hit a home run for every error he makes. If by the All Star break those numbers aren't even or better in favor of homers, he can't be at short.
