I'm curious to see how many fannies Harvelous puts in
the seats on what is traditionally a very small gate. Gonna
be relatively mild this evening for an April game with light wind.

reportedly, it's going to be a nice crowd. They released the 'expected attendance' in the press box, so we should get those reports with the game notes/lineup later.

The Mets are currently (as of 12:30 PM EDT) offering only 1402 remaining seats for sale for tonight. I don't know how they count the luxury suites and group sales areas in attendance, but unless they're playing games with ticket availability, the paid attendance should exceed 40k.

yup, if you go to the ticket map on the site there are very few tickets available for purchase. they even have 600 tickets in the Big Apple Seats which I assume were recently released when they couldn't/didn't get a group sale for it.

those seats are only $20 though, so at least it's not super gouging. it's a cheap game. I don't know when/if dynamic pricing kicks in, but it doesn't seem to have been too fierce.

Same cast of characters as last night for the Phillies - although in a slightly different order with Ben Revere moved down

This will be David Buchanan's 4th start vs the Mets (all in his rookie year of 2014). He's 0-2 plus an ND although it's not like NYM bats have totally smacked him around.
5/29/14 - 4 run on 7 hits in 6.2 IP
8/11 - 3 run on 4 hits in 6.0
8/29 - 1 Run on just 4 hits over 6.0 (ND)

He did have a rough go of it in his one start this season vs Boston: 6 runs on 7 hits over 3 IP

Jerry not going for the title of Boundless Blevins, announced as unavailable for today, and while it may be prudent to hold him out, it strikes me as strategically unsound to report a soldier down before the battle.

I probably shouldn't have even posted this. Hey, Ryne Sandberg, I'm kidding.

Philadelphia at NY Mets
When: 7:10 PM ET, Tuesday, April 14, 2015
Where: Citi Field, New York City, New York
SportsDirect Inc.

Matt Harvey starts at Citi Field for the first time in 598 days when the New York Mets continue their home series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Harvey enjoyed a breakout season in 2013 before undergoing Tommy John surgery, forcing the 26-year-old to wait nearly two years to pitch again in front of the hometown fans.

"Your home crowd is always behind you," Harvey said via the team's official website. "For me, they've been great. They've always been extremely supportive and very uplifting for me. We're all excited to be home, and I'm specifically excited to pitch." Harvey's season debut was a sparkling reminder of his immense potential, as he limited Washington to four hits in six scoreless innings, racking up nine strikeouts in a 6-3 victory. Another one of the Mets' young pitchers shined on Monday as Jacob deGrom tossed 6 1/3 strong innings in a 2-0 victory to kick off the series. Philadelphia has been blanked twice already this season and has not scored more than four runs in any game.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN Philadelphia, SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH David Buchanan (0-1, 18.00 ERA) vs. Mets RH Matt Harvey (1-0, 0.00)

Buchanan's season debut featured six runs, seven hits and four walks allowed in three innings of a 6-2 loss to the Red Sox last Thursday. He faced the Mets three times as a rookie last season and went 0-2 despite a respectable 3.38 ERA. He held Lucas Duda and Curtis Granderson to a combined 1-for-16 with five strikeouts.

Harvey threw 91 pitches last Thursday and will be limited to 100 once again Tuesday as he works his way back to full strength. Harvey is 4-5 in 18 career starts at Citi Field despite a 1.89 ERA in those games. In his career against the Phillies, he is 4-0 with a 1.08 ERA, including 13 scoreless innings over the last two matchups.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Phillies 2B Chase Utley has enjoyed a bit of success against Harvey, going 4-for-13 (.308) with a .400 on-base percentage.
2. Philadelphia (16) is tied for the fewest runs scored in the major leagues.
3. All seven of the Mets' games have been decided by three runs or fewer.

Kirk's bat is uncharacteristically slow through the zone.

Funny how one guy can look naturally pumped and into it, and another guy look like a juvenile screaming LOOK AT ME. And funny how we can tell the difference.

Well, you know he was pumped because you actually got a half-visible reaction out of the guy.

Really, though, with the way this game turned out, I'm just shocked we didn't see a Cesar Romero cameo.

It also reminded me of the days of McCarver in the booth, because the broadcasters seemed two steps ahead of both managers.

I gotta watch this one over. I didn't even see the Cuddy HBP. Thank the Gods of baseball he's alright. I call 2 weeks on Wright. I'm gonna have to complete that OPERATION Wright graphic.

I think they've finally proven to themselves that a 4-man bench isn't optimal. They got away with it for 7 games but it nearly bit them in the ass tonight.

I dunno, if the bullpen thing works for them... It's a freak thing that you get two injuries in the same game. the odds against that are rare.

I think it works early, ease your pitchers into things, your starters don't go as long, etc.

Nothing freaky about running through four bench players in a tight, back-and-forth game. It happens all the time, whether due to injures, pinch-hitting, double switches, defensive replacements, or ejections.

What's in many ways more compelling than the potential of running out of players is what happened earlier, getting caught in a mis-match, such as when Nieuwenhuis is forced to face a lefty with men in scoring position.

Unsettling how this game featured troubling injuries, unsound managerial decisions, bean balling, a returning ace celebrated as a savior but coming up all too human, and an inability to decisively put away what appears to be the weakest team in the decision, and it was one of the most entertaining games in years.

I can't get over what abrupt changes in complexion the game took, aided in part by crazy energy in the stands, and whacky shit happening everywhere. Part of that was the Cuddyer injury, finding out xrays were negative, only to have the Wright injury come right on its heels. Fucked up.

Wright was running 3-2, with presumably the expectation that Duda would be protecting the strike zone and therefore protecting him.

When Duda took a hittable slider, Wright was suddenly on his own, and Duda's take job and Galvis' late coverage put all sorts of weird improvisations into Wright's slide as he attempted to get into that base. Still, I thought he hurt an ankle or knee or something. A hammy is usually a running injury, not a sliding one.

Wright probably injured himself way before he even began to slide. Wright said he felt something in his hamstring while running towards second.

From the New York Post:

Wright will undergo an MRI exam Wednesday morning to see how serious the injury is, but Collins sounded convinced Wright would land on the disabled list. Wright injured himself stealing second base in the eighth inning. Wright said he felt it a few feet before he reached the base. He initially stayed in the game after talking to the trainers, but motioned to come out a few pitches later.

That makes sense. You can't run far on it, but he still had his forward momentum to take him the last few feet.

Who knows? Wright initially thought he could remain in the game, unless he was macho posing. I know from my ordinary experiences, (and you may not know this, but I'm not no $15M a year MLB all-star,) those injuries are a lot worse after I wake up the next day.

Its a tad premature IMO.
While the crowd and excitement were there for the first two games of the series, there would have to have been more than 21,000 in the park last night to convince me that the magic is really (coming) back. But I'm looking forward to being convinced.

The narrative that 'our hitters get thrown at but our pitchers rarely retaliate' is one that fans everywhere embrace as something that applies to their team in particular.

Nevermind that the (current) Mets have hit Chase Utley 9 times in 144 PA. What's that over 162, like 45 times?

The Mets have hit him 27 times in 173 games. That's 5 more than anyone else (Marlins)

But it's probably more about Chase Utley, who's been hit 170 times. He's the active leader. He's 15th all time.

Edgy: any particular posts you noticed about this? I was going to tweet out these facts but perhaps I'll write up a post instead.
