25 Questions -- the season-long prediction game

Frayed Knot
Mar 27 2015 01:31 PM

Below are 25 questions that can all be answered with a simple YES/NO (10), OVER/UNDER (10), or an EITHER/OR between two players (5) - so no 'Only ifs', or 'Yeah buts' allowed.
Obviously (at least I think it's obvious) the results are only those which are tallied with the 2015 NYM. No minor league numbers and/or those with other clubs this season count towards any totals.

If you choose to participate, answer all 25 and I'll tally the results then do my best to keep this from being forgotten at the end of the regular season at which point we'll reexamine it for the purpose of [crossout]ridiculing the losers[/crossout] seeing whose picks were most accurate.
All entries due by the end of Sunday, April 5

Part 1: YES or NO
1) Curtis Granderson leads the club in HRs? (any ties count as a win for the YES answers)
2) Jenrry Mejia leads in saves? (same deal if there's a tie)

Will be on the team's ML roster (or DL) the entire season?
3) Dillon Gee
4) Bartolo Colon
5) Travis d'Arnaud
6) Anthony Recker
7) Daniel Murphy
8) Ruben Tejada
9) Jonathon Niese
10) Terry Collins (has to be field manager for a YES to count - if demoted but stays in the org with a "special assistant" title or other such nonsense it doesn't count)

Part 2: OVER/UNDER
11) Lucas Duda -- 29.5 HRs
12) Michael Cuddyer -- 119.5 Starts
13) Jenrry Mejia -- 19.5 Saves
14) Wilmer Flores -- 449.5 PAs
15) Bartolo Colon -- 17.5 Starts
16) David Wright -- 21.5 HRs (22 or more would surpass Straw's club record)
17) Kirk Nieuwenhuis -- 199.5 PAs
18) Noah Syndergaard -- 19.5 ML Starts
19) Steven Matz -- 9.5 ML Starts
20) Brandon Nimmo - 49.5 ML PAs

EITHER/OR - simply name one player or the other in each comparison
21) More PAs w/2015 NYM: Murphy or Herrera?
22) More PAs: Nieuwenhuis or Mayberry?
23) More PAs: d'Arnaud or Plawecki?
24) More Saves: Parnell or Familia?
25) More IPs: Gilmartin or Leathersich?

Yes, I will tally no results until next Sunday night. Let's say a 9 PM EDT deadline on 4/5.

Do note that the question is for Most Innings Pitched, not appearances.
Your post-answer comment makes it seem like you may have read it the other way.

Re: 25 Questions -- the season-long prediction game

First of all: 24 ENTRIES!! Nice participation folks.
The answers to TWO of the questions were unanimous:
(Q #22) that d’Arnaud would get more PAs than Plawecki (not so surprising)
and (Q #9) that Niese would remain on the team all year - maybe more surprising there, a tribute to his lefthandedness perhaps.

Summary:
Grandy leads in HRs: YES = 3 (Sharpie, BMFC1, and … ME put our faith in the Grandy Man - or lack of faith in others depending on how you want to look at it)
Mejia leads in saves: YES = 18 of the 24 votes

On roster all year?
3) Gee: YES = 16
4) Colon: YES = 8
5) d’Arnaud: YES = 22 (Ceetar & Zvon going against the grain on this one)
6) Recker: YES = 8
7) Murphy: YES = 12 (hmmm, exactly 50/50)
8) Tejada: YES = 8
9) Niese: YES = 24
10) Collins: YES = 23 (Han Solo is the lone man who sez no)

OVER/UNDER
11) Duda 29.5 HRs: OVER = 11
12) Cuddyer 119.5 Games: OVER = 16
13) Mejia 19.5 Saves: OVER = 15
14) Flores 449.5 PAs: OVER = 18
15) Colon 17.5 Starts: OVER = 14
16) Wright 21.5 HRs: OVER = 19
17) Nieuwenhuis 199.5 PAs: OVER = 9
18) Syndergaard 19.5 Starts: OVER = 2 (Ceetar & MFS ’62)
19) Matz 9.5 Starts: OVER = 4
20) Nimmo 49.5 PAs: OVER = 6

EITHER/OR
21) More PAs - Murphy or Herrera: 22/2 in favor of MURPHY (Kong & JCL are the dissenters)
22) More PAs - Nieuwenhuis or Mayberry: 15/9 MAYBERRY
23) More PAs - d’Arnaud or Plawecki: 24/0 d’ARNAUD
24) More Saves - Parnell or Familia: 15/8 FAMILIA
25 More IPs - Gilmartin or Leathersich: 18/6 GILMARTIN

Maybe I'll look to do quarterly updates on how our answers are looking.

Re: 25 Questions -- the season-long prediction game

Updated as we hit the 3/4 pole.
Looks like 8 questions already have a firm answer with a bunch more all but official.
But =#0000BF]a handful of these look like they're going to go down to the wire.

QUESTIONRESULTSTRENDING
GRANDY LEADS TEAM in HRs21 of 24 = NO=#0000FF]'YES' although just by a single ‘Outta Here’
MEJIA LEADS TEAM in SAVES18 of 24 = YESThis is now officially a 'NO'
GEE to STAY on TEAM ALL SEASON16 of 24 = YESIn the books as a ’NO’
COLON ON ROSTER ALL SEASON16 of 24 = NO’YES’ looking like a near certainty
d’ARNAUD ON ROSTER ALL SEASON22 of 24 = YES’YES’ looking like a near certainty
RECKER ON ROSTER ALL SEASON16 of 24 = NOIn the books as a ‘NO’
MUPRHY ON ROSTER ALL SEASON12 said YES, 12 said NOAlso looks like a definite ‘Yes’
TEJADA ON ROSTER ALL SEASON16 of 24 = NOAnother ‘YES' is all but official
NIESE ON ROSTER ALL SEASON24 of 24 = YESA healthy Matz may have changed things, but now a sure ‘YES’
COLLINS IN CHARGE ALL SEASON23 of 24 = YESSurvived the west coast trip … so ‘YES’
DUDA OVER/UNDER 29.5 HRs11 of 24 = OVER=#0000FF]'UNDER' but close - on pace for 28
CUDDYER OVER/UNDER 119.5 Games Played16 of 24 = OVER=#0000FF]TOSS UP — on Pace for 120.15 !!
MEJIA OVER/UNDER 19.5 Saves15 of 24 = OVERIn the books as a ‘NO’ - probably for his career as well
FLORES OVER/UNDER 449.5 PAs18 of 24 = OVER’OVER - on Pace for 558
COLON OVER/UNDER 17.5 Starts14 of 24 = OVER’OVER’ with plenty of (waistband) room to spare
WRIGHT OVER/UNDER 21.5 HRs19 of 24 = OVER‘UNDER’ got the tap-out on this one months ago
NIEUWENHUIS OVER/UNDER 199.5 PAs9 of 24 = OVERCurrently 113 short - so ’UNDER’ it is
SYNDERGAARD OVER/UNDER 19.5 Starts2 of 24 = OVERTwo more and the ’OVER’ bets win
MATZ OVER/UNDER 9.5 Starts4 of 24 = OVER’UNDER’ as he’s not likely to get 8 starts in Sept
NIMMO OVER/UNDER 49.5 PAs6 of 24 = OVER’UNDER’ as Conforto and Cespedes likely moved his call-up to next year
MURPHY or HERRERA: More PAs22 of 24 = MURPHIn the books for ‘MURPH’
NIEUWENHUIS or MAYBERRY: More PAs15 of 24 = MAYBERRY=#0000FF]Could go either way as ’MAYBERRY’ leads but by just 32
d’ARNAUD or PLAWECKI: More PAs24 of 24 = d’ARNAUD=#0000FF]’PLAWECKI’ leads by 92 but that's still doable for d’Arnaud

GILMARTIN or LEATHERSICH: More IPs18 of 24 = GILMARTINWas going to be ‘GILMARTIN’ even before JL’s TJ surgery

Re: 25 Questions -- the season-long prediction game

Whooops, quick update.

Looking back at my original questions, the one for Cuddyer was OVER/UNDER for 119.5 Starts for the season not merely games played in (I'm not sure I meant it that way but that's the way I stated it so that's the way we need to go on it).
So with 79 starts to date it leaves him needing to start in 41 of the remaining 42 games in order to score for the 'OVER' votes to win. So while 'OVER' isn't officially out yet, 'UNDER' has him in a headlock and is ready to apply the sleeper hold.
If we were to include his 10 PH/sub games then he's appeared in 89 which would put him on a pace for 120.15 game appearances which would likely bring this question right down to the wire, but that's not the question you folks were betting on (assuming that you even read the questions in the first place and didn't just go: A C B D C B A A B ... etc like you used to on the multiple choice quizzes you forgot to study for).

If Irish had entered, he would have won the whole thing.
